20 - PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, August. 4 1993 Open air service enjoyed Ashburn News | by Florence Ashton Everyone enjoyed the open . air church at Windreach Farm, on Sunday, July 25 with Rev. Dr. Dorcas Gordon taking charge. It was very inspiring as we worshipped together on the grounds of this beautiful rolling countryside. As this was Rev. Gordon's last Sunday with us, to show our appreciation, she was presented with two study books by Hugh Knight, Clerk of Session. Following the informal service, everyone enjoyed the "bountiful pot luck meal. Pea- meal, the friendly black pig wandered around and greeted everyone, especially enjoying licking the plates. Before every- one left for home many toured the grounds and the fine facili- ties available for the handi-, capped people as well as enjoy- ing the animals, vegetable garden and nature trail. Sandy Mitchell. the founder welcomed everyone and informed us of the many different workshops and programs available. Visitors are welcome to visit the proper- ty, especially on weekends, when there is less activity. Last Sunday, we welcomed the new minister, Rev. Sheina Smith to Burns Church as she begins her ministry here. Deb- bie Batten and Sharmen Porter sang a duet "God Of The Moun- tain." On Thursday evening, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. the induction service will take place by the Pickering Presbytery. Every- one is welcome to attend. A re- ception will be held in the lower hall following the service. The community and the | Burns congregation are mourn- ing the passing of the late Mu- riel Fisher, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 24 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Ross and Diane Bat- ten. The funeral service was held last Tuesday afternoon at Burns Church, with Dr. Shirley Gale of Guelph conducting the service. Muriel was a devoted member of Burns Church, hav- ing taught Sunday School for many years, was an active member of the Ladies Bible Class, W.M.S. and Kirk Guild until a few months ago. Muriel had been ill for quite some time but always she would have a gracious smile to greet her friends. I travelled with Muriel on two occasions last year, memories of which I will never forget. Her friendliness and charming wit was an inspira- tion to all who knew her and her memory will linger on, in the "hearts of those who knew and | loved her. Her presence among us will be sadly and deeply RC COO COC COOOO0 EC ON s|[LBF 5 | Tourtiere - 175g.
