Now that they're back, we could all use a little refresher course on what to do when you meet one on the road. It's very simple. You must stop when a school bus flashes its red waming signals. Even if you're going In the opposite direction. Let's all have a safe fall. Remember, the roads tum yellow before the leaves do. Some of the provisions in the Fail Safe program include: - Employees will not be required to take unpaid leave of absence if it reduces their earning to under $30,000 per year. - In order to equalize the effect of unpaid days on employees remuneration, pay for 1/2 day will be deducted from specified pay periods. Days off will be scheduled separately. - The program recognizes that some employees volunteered to participate in payroll deduction prior to the implementation of the program and will be reduced accordingly. - The eight days off will be scheduled according to opera- tional needs for each department. - Employees will be encouraged to request voluntary unpaid leaves of absence. When approved, such leaves would reduce the number of manda- tory unpaid days required for that employee in that year. - If cost saving measures are insufficient to meet the Social Contract Reduction for the years 1994 and 1995, employees may be required to take unpaid leaves of up to 12 days in each year. The program is to be posted today (Tuesday) and comes into effect immediately. Deductions-start today Councillor Yvonne Christie said that council could still look for other ways to save, but due to tight budgeting this year there is little room to move. Mr. Cuddie suggested if coun- cil finds other savings a new schedule could be posted later. Once the Fail Safe Program has been posted, the union has up to 10 days to challenge the program and request an amend- ment. Former councillor unhappy with re-alignment of wards As a long-time advocate of replacing Scugog's 'area council- lor' with a fifth ward council member, former councillor Don Cochrane told council Monday afternoon that he was in full agreement in principal to the proposed change in the ward boundaries. Mr. Cochrane said he did not agree with the proposed divi- sion, which would split Port Perry in two and leave Reach Twp. too large. "Port Perry is the hub of the community, but if you have an unbalanced hub you don't have a smooth running machine," he told councillors. He argued that Ward I (Reach) covers more than 110 sq. miles and is far too cumber- son. for a single councillor. Under the proposed system, splitting Port Perry into two wards would leave them with less than 4 square miles each, he told council. Mayor Howard Hall argued they were not creating two wards in Port Perry and empha- sized that, the majority of futur development will take place in the immediate area of Port Perry and Prince Albert. "We're looking to the future" the Mayor said. Councillor David Dietland said he was happy to see Mr. Cochrane making his views known and was surprised he had not received one phone call about the re-alignment of the Lotus 1-2-3 (1) Lotus 1-2-3- (2) Women In The 90's WordPerfect 5.1 (1) WordPerfect 5.1 (2) WordPerfect for Kids Finding your future DURHAM COLLEGE - UXBRIDGE CAMPUS NEW LOCATION 2 Campbell Drive, Suite 205 Uxbridge, Ontario LOP 1H6 (416) 852-7848
