Community Memorial Hospi- tal administrator Dave Brown told Port Perry Star publisher Peter Hvidsten that Ms. Camp- bell's people had been in touch with the hospital to make sure there was an adequate supply of her blood type available, just in case. And people who brought gifts for the Prime Minister, could ~ not give them to her directly. In- stead, the gifts had to be handed over to the RCMP for inspec- tion. This happened to Ken Koury, who brought Ms. Campbell a box of chocolates from his store Nuts About Chocolate, and Bill Lishman, who brought a grey crocheted beaver fur cape made by his wife Paula's company. "As long as it's not ticking, I'd be delighted to take it," Ms. Campbell joked when Mr. Lish- man told her of the cape during the question and answer period. With the security check com- pleted by 12:50 p.m., Durham Riding MP Ross.Stevenson ad- dressed the crowd, saying the 90 invited guests would be al- lowed in first, and if room war- ranted, the remaining 50 or so people would be allowed in. The excitement level mount- ed at 1:10 p.m. when two "Kim" The first folk music concert organized by the Greenbank Folk Music Society was a tre- mendous success. The concert, which featured the music of Mose Scarlett and Ken Whiteley, was a sell-out be- fore the doors opened; for the September 11 event. Members of the society hope future concerts enjoy the same success. The line-up for this season in- | Specials on all our lines | of quality Gas or Wood campaign buses rolled into the parking lot. It was short-lived, however, when the crowd real- ized the buses were filled with about 50 members of the nation- al media who are touring with the Prime Minister during the election campaign. Ms. Campbell's bus arrived at 1:23 p.m. Although the distance between where she has gotten off the bus and the front door can be travelled in under 15 sec- onds, it took the Prime Minister -- who greeted people along the way -- 13 minutes to get inside the building. Once inside, Ms. Campbell was greeted with a round of ap- plause. It took an additional four minutes for her to reach the John Deere stool from where she would address the crowd and listen to their concerns. The Prime Minister, dressed in a wine-colored jacket and skirt set with an off-white blouse, talked directly to the people, making eye contact with many of them. She appeared very much at ease with the public, showing her humorous side on many oc- casions. At one point, she called Durham Riding MP Ross Ste- venson "Donahue" because he was moderating the question and answer period. When she used her hands to express a point, Ms. Campbell ~ Folk music concert a success cludes Fred J. Ms. Campbell talked tough when questioned by the press on a number of national issues. About half of the questions were asked by the French media, and the Prime Minister responded in thatlanguage. After the media scrum, she spent more time meeting the public while making her way to the bus. With a wave goodbye, the bus doors closed and she was off to her next event, where there would be more RCMP officers, more explosive-sniffing dogs, and more voters looking for the chance to meet the nation's leader.
