32 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 14,1993 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Softball general meeting Re/Max ladies bow out _ Another very successful year i8 drawing to a close for Port Perry Minor Softball. There were about 600 young people pla ng with Minor Softball wit four T-ball teams, 11 sev- en-eight mites teams, 10 nine- 10 mite teams, four youth girls teams, four youth boys teams and eight youth lob ball teams. There were also "rep" teams in the mites, squirts, peewee, pee- wee bantan girls, bantams and midgets. Two of our rep teams hosted their All-Ontario cham- pionships and both were suc- cessful with the squirts winning the All-Ontario Squirt "C" and the midgets winning the All- Ontario Midget "B". Needless to say, there are" several hundred people who have volunteered their time to be convenors and coaches as well as our wonderful sponsors - all of whom have been thanked In a prior issue of this paper. Sadly, that is where we are lacking manpower and it is essential that there be some help on the executive for next year. Staying on top of every as- pect of running successful pro- grams is a huge job for one or two people. If you value the ex- perience your children or your- self have had with Port Perry Minor Softball, then please con- sider coming out and getting in- volved! Many hands make light work and NO prior experience is necessary - just a willingness to pitch in and help. Date PCheque Enclosed (________) Signature Team Roping Calf Roping in division championship It was an exciting finish to a good year for the Re/Max ladies as they went 4-0 in the round- robin at the "Port Perry Ladies Lobball' Annual Tournament last weekend, and lost a hard fought "B" Championship game to a hard hitting Panthers team on Saturday afternoon. Re/Max played Panthers on Wednesday night in the first game of the tournament. Pan- thers scored one run in the first inning and one in the second with six consecutive hits. Pan- thers scored four runs in the third with Re/Max only getting one. Panthers scored two more in the top of the fifth to lead 8-3. Not to be beaten, Re/Max scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth on eight hits. The sixth in- ning was scoreless. In the sev- enth, Panthers scored once and Re/Max twice to finish the game 10-9 for their first win. The next game, against Sea- grave, was also a close one with Seagrave ahead at the end of six, by a score of 5-4. In the top of the seventh, Re/Max scored two runs on three hits, includ- ing a triple by Donna. In the bottom of the inning, Seagrave was held scoreless. The final score was 6-5 for Re/Max, their second win. On Saturday morning, Re/ Max played Saintfield. Al- though it was early in the morn- ing, the bats were awake and at the end of two, the score was 11- 5 for Re/Max. Re/Max went on to win their third game of the tournament by a score of 14-7. Re/Max bats continued to be hot in their next game, against Ridgenorth. After coming from behind in the third inning and tying the score at five, they nev- er looked back, shutting Ridge- north out for the remaining five 'against Oshawa General innings. The final score was 12- 5 for Re/Max. Win number four. On Saturday afternoon, Re/ Max played Panthers again in the "B" Championship game. This game was similar to the first game, and at the end of six, the score was 7-6 for Panthers. A fifth win for Re/Max was not to be. They were held to only three hits in the last two 1n- nings and lost to Panthers 14-6. Joan received MVP for this game. Congratulations! The coaches, Ray Zaparanuik 'and Ralph McCullough, would like to thank the team for a fun and successful year; and as a team would like to thank our sponsor, the staff at Re/Max Scugog Realty Limited, for their support throughout the year. On Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1993 Community Memorial Hospital hosted a mixed lob ball game tal at the north diamond. Alumni softball The Durham College Athletic Department is continuing with its tradition of excellence by es- tablishing an Annual Alumni Women's Softball game. The 1993 Alumni Women's Softball game will take place Saturday, Sept. 26 at noon at Durham Fields. The game will feature an All Star team of Alumni vs. the 1993 Durham Lady Lords. | Last year's game was a great success! With a post game social added this year, 1993 will prove to be another success allowing former alumni to get together on an annual basis.
