Pr --------------------T---------- -- "A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, September 28,1993 - 19 ROSS STEVENSON candidate for Progressive Conservative This October 25th federal election is all about leadership. The question voters will ask themselves is: which leader -- which team of men and women -- has the understanding, the will, and the sense of direction that Canada so badly needs today? These are difficult and challenging times. Security and prosperity can no longer b e taken for granted as they once were. Canadians are looking for a leader who can inspire new feelings of hope and opportunity. The clear answer is Prime Minister Kim Campbell and our Progressive Conservative team. That's not because I'm suggesting we have all the answers, or even pretend to have them. It's because we have a strong, straight-talking and sensitive leader -- a person who is in close touch with the times and with Canadians. Any of you who saw Kim Campbell on her recent visit to Scugog had to be impressed. As she demonstrated that day, she not only wants to meet people, but to talk with them, to listen to them, and to hear what they're thinking. She offers a refreshing new style of government -- one that is open and accessible, realistic, straightforward, and responsive to the issues that concern Canadians. When comparing Prime Minister Kim Campbell with the alternatives, I'm convinced most Canadians will agree she is the best leader for Canada. She is on the right track, and she deserves her own chance to show just how much she can do for Canada. On October 25th, voters can decide whether they want a political leader who says the best way to build up foreign trade, which provides jobs for one of every three-Canadians, is by renouncing our international trade agreements. How much confidence can you have in other leaders who say they'll abolish a tax, but won't tell you how they plan to replace it and the $15 billion it contributes to reducing the deficit each year? Voters will decide whether they want to go back to the "good old day" of Trudeau-style tax ad spend government, with short-term projects to make low-skill jobs. Kim Campbell's goal is to develop long-term solutions for building a healthy Canadian economy, creating new opportunities and jobs for Canadians. With Kim Campbell as Prime Minister, my own job will be representing the people of Durham to their government at Ottawa -- not the other way around! Our government will be working to earn your trust and keep it. With your support on October 25th, we can build the kind of prosperous, CMM) se mee. They vis- ited many beautiful gardens, among them were Bressingham in England, the Flower Show in Stutthart, Germany, Mainau Island in Lake Constance which 1s a garden island owned by Swedish royalty. It is here that you see many gardens of roses and dahlias. They also visited Monet's garden outside Paris. I caught a very interesting story on the news this week when Channel 5 interviewed former neighbor Tony Zoet, who has just recently been in touch with his birth brothers. This is an amazing story which started in General Motors, where Tony and one of his brothers worked not too far from each other, un- aware of who each were.
