Mod- Regional Road 2 work is on schedule A million-dollar road con- struction project in south Port Perry is progressing well, says Scugog's Regional Councillor. According to Yvonne Chris- tie, who serves as Durham's Vice-Chairman of the Works Committee, the project on Re- gional Road 2is on schedule and should be completed by the end of October. Councillor Christie said the $975,000 project "was complet- ing its final stages" and was working its way towards the end. She said most of the heavy digging was completed and the crews were in the final stages of completion. The project involves a new water line, a new sewer line for some homes in the area, widen- | AN VANDI) D IA IBILh [ERRAND 235 Queen St., Port Perry 985-3900 ing of the road and the installa- tion of sidewalks on the east side. Dagmar Construction has been working on the stretch of road from Highway 7A to Van- edward Drive since the early summer. Although it is close to comple- tion, it will not be soon enough for some of the residents and merchants. Many complaints have been heard concerning the traffic tie-ups and other prob- lems relating to the project. Despite the rumblings, Coun- cillor Christie said she has not received one formal complaint. She does sympathize, however. "I'm sure people are fed up. It is frustrating, but it's close to completion," she said. ern washroom facilities are also planned. Despite a pre-planned bud- . get, the project ran approxi- mately 80 per cent higher than its original $19,000 price tag. But Mr. Arculus said this was needed to ensure that the job was done right. Mr. Arculus said the commu- nity came together to ensure that the project was a success. "The community has really gotten behind us. Everybody has been supportive," he said. "It's the culmination of a very busy and exciting summer for the museum." EMMERSON | INSURANCE BROKERS LIMITED 193 QUEEN ST., PORT PERRY, ONT.
