To the Editor: Recently Mr. Ross Stevenson, P., Durham announced a grant from the Minister's Re- serve Fund for the operation of Scugog Employment Services. This grant comes from the Em- ployment Assistance budget of Employment & Immigration Canada and will enable us to firmly establish the Port Perry office. Our municipality owes a debt of gratitude to Mr. Steven- son, for his strenuous efforts and keen interest in fostering our goals. Without his support and encouragement there would have been no way that S.E.S. could have continued, and we are very fortunate to have such a concerned and in- volved representative working so diligently for our community in Ottawa. Many others have also been extraordinarily helpful and generous with both practical and moral support and deserve recognition and thanks for their participation: Should know the rules To the Editor: Re: Denis Wrong's letter on "Poor Sportsman In Scugog" to the editor in Sept. 28 issue of the Port Perry Star. The league has rules that all coaches must abide by, if abid- ing by these rules set down by Durham Girls Soccer League is poor sportsmanship, then 1 guess I am guilty. Part of coaching is knowing the rules, making sure your own players abide by the rules as well as the opposition. I would like to clarify several points: 1. I didn't advise the op- posing coach that (16) non- validated cards (two of which Scugog Shores Spinners & Weavers 4th Annual Show & Sale ~ ¢ Pine Quality Clothing © QGifvItems » Decorating Accessories ~ Featuring demonstrations by local artists Saturday, Oct. 16 10am-4pm Sunday, Oct. 17 noon-4pm Masonic Hall FREE ADMISSION didn't even have birth dates) would not be an obstacle in play- ing the game. 2. I didn't call the president of the league after the game. 3. Neither myself or Roy Cowling (president Scugog Soc- cer) were contacted in regards to replaying the game. The question was asked what did the Scugog girls learn from this experience? I would hope in my capacity as coach they would have learned that as in any sport you must follow and abide by the rules set down by Mayor Hall, Councillor Ken Gadsden and Council, Gord Mills, M.P.P., Jim Grieve (Port Perry 1.G.A.), Tony Janssen (Port Perry Printing), Peter Hvidsten (Port Perry Star), John McClelland (Scugog Citi- zen), Bill Sandiford (Computer Consultant) and John Groene- veld (Bridgeport Signs), have all been solidly behind us for the past six months and, of course, S.E.S. would not have had an of- fice at all had it not been for the kind donation of space, free of charge for two months, by Doc- tors Jack Cottrell and Jim Har- y. We also have some wonderful volunteers, who give freely of their time and expertise to the office. It would be almost impos- sible to handle the volume of business without their kind- ness and keen interest. To formally establish S.E.S. we are having on Open House on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. Mr. Stevenson will be there to officially open the office and we invite all interested friends, res- idents and clients, to come and Join us. We will also celebrate the success of "absent friends" - the former jobseekers who will the organization. be absent due to having found d Yourstrily, employment!
