ER Ea Sr SNR cs, 0 "A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 5, 1993 - 35 Pearce Auction Novice open season in Uxbridge The Pearce Auction Novice team opened their regular sea- son with a trip to their local ri- val's arena in Uxbridge. This was the first game of the season for our boys as a "team". The more practiced Uxbridge squad took advantage of some early game jitters and scored two quick goals in the first minute and a half of the game, only to be followed by another goal ear- ly in the third period. Thomas Lee, the veteran goalie from last year's team, faced several shots and kept the score close. As the first period progressed, the boys began to settle down, with Gordon Smith and Garrett Brown steadying the defence. Halfway through the second period, Mark Duncan spotted Trevor Lance and sent him into the clear on a clean cut breaka- way. Trevor made no mistaké and fired a hard shot behind the Uxbridge goalie. Port Perry con- tinued to press, with forwards Steven MacLennan and Mi- chael Thompson forechecking aggressively. Early in the third period, Ux- bridge jumped back into a com- manding 4-1 lead. Not to be dis- couraged, Spencer Churchill made a good pass to Justin Mof- fatt. Justin broke in alone and fooled the Uxbridge goalie to narrow the gap to 4-2. With only four minutes left to play, Jameson Smith sent Jeftrey Tarbotton and Dylan Harper in on a two on one. Jeff made a neat pass from the side of the net, and Dylan fired it home to make it 4-3. With only minutes remain- ing, Geoffrey Simpson made a solid defensive play to force the faceoff in the Uxbridge end of the ice. Kevin Robins worked hard around the net in an effort to tie the game. Unfortunately, as the coaches began to think about pulling the goalie, we fell victim to the "curfew rule". The game ended with a minute and a half on the clock.
