(reserved seating) SCUGOG SHORES FIBRE ARTISTS AND FRIENDS | MASONIC HALL, PORT Perry Syndicated columnist Wil- liam Thomas will be at the Port Perry Star on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. to promote his purr-fectly delightful book "Malcolm and Me: Life in the Litterbox." Mr. Thomas, whose weekly humor column appears in 40 newspapers including Port Perry Star Marketplace, will read excerpts from the book and sign copies. The 131-pa hardcover book, published by Stoddart Publishing, is a tell-all tale about his life with Malcolm, a buck-toothed bag of bones who swaggers up the author's drive- way and into his life. Ironically, Mr. Thomas re- veals in the opening chapter that he never much cared for cats. He wanted a dog -- a BIG dog. But his hope of ever experi- encing puppy love was quashed when romantic love led him to marry acatlover. "I never much cared for cats," Mr. Thomas says. "Not until I married a woman who loved cats. I wanted a dog. She want- ed a cat. So we compromised -- we got two cats." Stuck with the cat after his marriage ended -- she got the sane cat and a snazzy '67 Cut- lass convertible -- Mr. Thomas discovers that Malcolm is a re- lentless morning person, a vora- cious (and sloppy) eater, an ab- solute neurotic on annual vet day, and a small comfort indeed when the author's octogenarian mother, Marg, moves in for a lengthy visit. Although Mr. Thomas will be 'at the book signing, his beloved feline won't be making the trip. Malcolm used up the last of his nine lives last year at the age of 18 and only. hours before the book contract had been signed at Stoddart Publishing. His death was rough on Mr. Thomas.
