From the 2nd Port Perry Pathfinders: Kimberly Fabiano, Robyn Popo- vitch, Karen Wilson and Jackie Woodcock. From the 3rd Port Perry Pathfinders: Jenni Coop- er, Sara Hunter, Kathleen Lang, Katie Senyk and Mindi Yake. These girls have all worked hard over the past seven to nine years to earn Brownie Wings, Guide All Round Cords and now their Canada Cord. The enjoy- ment of friendship and learning will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Many of these Guiding skills will be used over and over again as they grow old- er, get jobs, marry and have families of their own. Hopefully they will have daughters or someone to share the experi- ence of Guiding with. (Rear) Jennie Cooper, Mindi Yake, Sara Hunter, Guiding is alive and well With 220 girls from Sparks to Rangers and 41 volunteer lead- ers, a great deal of friendship, fun and learning is happening in Port Perry and Seagrave. Since registration early in Sep- tember, many of the units have taken full advantage of what our community and surround- ing area has to offer. The 4th Port Perry Brownies had an ex- citing visit to the Scugog Shores Museum where they were shown how to make bannock and treated to Native Folk Lore. The 5th Port Perry Brownies combined with the 2nd Uxbridge Brownies for an exciting weekend at Camp Sa- mac. The highlight was when the many Prince Charmings es- corted their fashionable Cinde- rellas to the Cinderella Ball. The 1st Port Perry Guides are working on getting to know the community better and have planned visits to the firehall and post office. Many of the Guides, Path- finders and Rangers are now planning for winter and spring camps to experience the great out of doors. Last weekend, the 2nd Port Perry Pathfinders and Rangers braved the cold weath- er to sell apple pie, which they had made, and coffee at the Ap- ple Harvest Festival. They have also recently visited the War- saw Caves near Peterborough, a very interesting and worth- while learning experience. On Oct. 17 at the Port Perry United Church, nine Pathfind- ers received their Canada Cords. Congratulations, girls, on a very hard job well done. Upcoming events to be aware of: the Craft Sale at the High School on Saturday, Oct. 30 will once again offer babysitting in the teachers' lounge by the Pathfinders for those shoppers who would like to take their time, knowing their children are well taken care of by experi- enced babysitters. The Guides will be serving light lunches, drinks and treats to the public in the cafeteria. Please come in and relax awhile. We also have a new cookie to sell to you. Mint Chocolate Wafer. Delicious! You will see the Guides, Path- Katie Senyk and Kathleen Lang. finders and Rangers selling these at various locations around town from Nov. 15 to 30. We will have several booths at the Santa Claus Parade. Although we do have at least one leader per unit, we are still looking for helpers. If you were ever a Guide, you know how much fun it is, and if you haven't, then why not come out and experience the excitement. If you can spare a couple of hours during the week, that's all it takes. Please call Linda Fabiano at 985-1145 if you are interested. We'd love to wel- come you aboard. Mrs. Iva Phoenix, the October convenor, has planned a visit to the "Ritcher Herb Gar- dens". From there, we return to her home for our business meet- ing. Ladies, please join us for this very interesting meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 20. This next Friday and Saturday is our W.I. Annual Central Ontario Con- vention. Note the change from meeting at the Royal York Ho- tel in Toronto to the "Howard Johnson Motel" at Markham Road just below the 401. We met at the Royal York for over 60 years, so this is a real change. The Pinedale United Church celebrated their 120th Anniver- sary on Sunday with the church full of members and friends. Mrs. speaker, was introduced to the congregation by her daughter Wilma Smith. We have enjoyed meeting Jackie at many UCW presbytery meetings. Her mes- sage to us was "The star shines on". The choir sang "We Thank Thee, God" and Wilma Smith and Carla Puckrin sang a duet Jackie Guthrie, guest "Praise the Lord with the Sound of Trumpet". Everyone enjoyed the delicious lunch served by the Pinedale UCW.. We are happy to report Mrs. Shirley Lee is at home now. We wish her continued good health. Too, Mrs. Margaret Couperth- waite is happy to be home. Get lots of rest, Shirley and Marga- ret. We miss you! The Youth Group Annual Breakfast will be served on Oct. 24, 9-10:30 a.m. in Greenbank Church. YY There is a Tupperware drop- in on Monday, Oct. 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Greenbank Church. ° The Evening Unit of UCW held a successful bazaar last Saturday. The coffee and sweet tray was delicious and very pop- ular for all who attended. The Sunday. School had several at- tractions. Their money raised is for the TV, VCR and stand to be used by everyone in thie Church. , There will be a practice Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. for girls - teenage choir.
