"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" 36- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, October 19, 1993 Auctioneers come up short Swam in match with Stouffville The Pearce Auction Novice 1 team took to the ice again on Friday night. They came out with a slow start against a reju- venated Stouffville team, com- ing up short by the score of 5-0. It wasn't for a lack of trying as Spencer Churchill, Jeff Tarbot- tom and Michael Thompson tested the Stouffville goalie on numerous occasiops. The defence was sound again with Garret Brown and Gordon Smith clearing out the zone ef- fectively. Trevor Lance fought hard for a goal only to be foiled by the Stouffville goalie. Mark Duncan, Justin Moffat and Ke- vin Robins all played strong two-way games. Geoffrey Simp- son was his usual tenacious self making Stouffville's life misera- ble. Steve MacLennan was strong defensively as was Jameson Smith who stopped several plays and initiated a few more. Dylan Harper played strongly on wing, tying up his men. At 9:30 of the third period, with the score 4-0, Stouffville was awarded a rare penalty shot. Goalie Thomas Lee was up to the task thwarting the Stouff- ville opponent to keep the score close. However, Stouffville added one more goal late in the third period leaving out team seeking revenge in the next rematch. Saturday saw the Pearce Auction novice team travel to Trenton for a Saturday after- noon match. The team, which is quickly becoming fine tuned, turned in a strong game and re- corded a 3-1 victory. Justin Mof. fat led the attack with two goals, one assisted by Geoffrey Simpson with a nice pass, the other was assisted by Kevin Robbins who really threaded the needle. Trevor Lance had the other score and could have had a few more if not for several good stops by the Trenton goal- ie. Kevin Robbins got an assist on Trevor's goal with a nifty pass. Forwards Spencer Churchill and Michael Thompson played strong games, making Trenton cough up the puck. Jeff Tarbot- tom had several excellent rush- es' only to be stymied by the Trenton goalie. Defensively, Garret Brown and Gordon Smith shut down almost any Trenton attack. Stevie MacLennan was his usual robust self, giving the Trenton team no room to move, and Dylan Harper in a new role, made his presence felt not giving an inch to the Trenton attackers. Backstop Thomas Lee who had his usual strong game, turned aside almost everything in sight. Great game, guys, keep up the good work. Missing in Sat- urday's game was Jameson Smith, so look out Trenton on the rematch Friday night. Big V and Scala Brothers meet in Peewee action Play for Saturday, Oct. 16 got off to a very early start as the teams took to the ice at 6 a.m. The first game had Big V against Scala and had great end to end action with both goal- tenders coming up strong. Ryan Fraser played net for the Big V team and Chris Thompson was between the pipes for Scala. For Big V Nick Ostafichuk and Adam Kingma played well on defense. Ken Ellis played well on forward coming up with some nice passes and Jericoh FIINVANNICTINIE] Now's the time for big savings on all new Ford New Holland equipment during Value Bonanza Days! Jere- my Pare played well on defense. Scoring for Scala were Jared Aldridge from John Bacon and Jeremy Pare from Tyler Woo- ten. Final score 2-1 for Scala. The second game had a little bit more scoring punch in the game as Emiel's came up with a 7-1 win over Larocque. Leading the scoring in this game was Chad Lance with two goals and an assist. Paul Brain picked up two goals with Sean Fletcher picking up a goal and an assist as well as Cam Cooper with a goal and an assist. Jeff Neal had a strong game on defense and picked up four assists. David Bonser picked up a goal also. Other assists went to Reid. McTaggart, Mark Delaney, Joey Van Camp and Alex McLaughlin. Jon Chambers played well in the net. The Larocque team skated well but just could not put the puck in the net. John Sanders played well on forward and had chances around the net but could not put it in. Devon Symes showed good hustle in both end zones while David Fillion had a strong game on defense. Peter McKitterick picked up the lone goal on a nice pass from Joel Phoenix who had a very strong game also. Printers win 4-0 Fort Perry Printing 4 Re/Max 0 We saw Port Perry Printing come up with their first win of the year. The game was closely matched with good goaltending shown by both Jordan Froats of Haugens and Tyler Webb of Van Camp. p wins and ties In first two games The Swamp Auto Body Ban- tam House League team got off to a fast start in house league action as they won and tied their first two games of the sea- son. With two teams from Ux- bridge, East Gwillimbury and Port Perry this house league has really gotten the players ex- cited as they get to travel to oth- er centres and play against kids that they don't already know and see nearly every day. The Port Perry home ice time is Sat- urdays at 6:30 p.m. and specta- tors will be pleasantly sur- prised by the calibre of hockey being played. The Swampers have played ~ both their games in Port with the game opener being against East Gwillimbury. Port came out flying as they scored four 'goals in the first period to take a quick commanding lead. Doing the damage for the Swampers were Brennen Arse- nault from Lisa Bonser, Jeremy Gibson from Jay Fletcher and Big Nick Skerratt, Jeremy Gib- - son with his second again from Jay Fletcher and Kris Wootten then Cory Wytrazyk finished off a nice play from Greg Bonser and Brennen Arsenault. The Swampers kept rolling right along as they extended their lead to 6-0 as it was Kris Wootten from Nick Skerratt and Kevin Edwards then Bren- nen Arsenault from Kris Woot- ten and Alex Bedell. East Gwil- limbury came back with a couple of goals of their own to make it 6-2 but the Swampers closed the period out with one more as Jamie Sauter banged one home from Cory Wytrazyk and Nick Skerratt to make it 7- The third period had East Gwillimbury pick up another goal but not to be outdone the Swampers banged in two goals of their own as it was again Ja- mie Sauter from Jay Fletcher and Greg Bonser and Jay Fletcher from Jeremy Gibson giving the Swampers a 9-3 win. The Swampers next game was against Uxbridge and this game was a real barn burner. End to end action, excellent goaltending at both ends, lots of hustle and some really good plays being made by both teams. Uxbridge scored first but before the first period ended the Swampers had tied it up as Kris Wootten scored from Kent Johnston and Noah Dorland. Uxbridge regained the lead in the second period making it a 2- 1 game, but Doug Short playing in net for the Swampers made some big saves to give his team a chance to come back. Finally they did in the third period as Jamie Sauter fired one home from Lisa Bonser and Jeremy Gibson to tie the game at two apiece. This was the way the game finished up which seemed only fitting as both teams had put on quite a show. The ap- plause given to the teams when the final buzzer went was well deserved. Judging by the first two games of the season the Ban- tam House League is definitely going to be a highly entertain- ing league this year with the ex- panded league. So if you're in the mood to take in a good game come out to the Port Perry Are- na on Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. and cheer the local boys on. You won't be disappointed.
