Try YY "A Family Tradition for 127 Years" Home and away series Malmont Atoms win and lose to Belleville team On Oct. 22, our team hosted their Belleville counterparts in a Lakeshore OMHA hockey thriller. This was exactly the type of "edge-of-your-seat" game that fans had anticipated and players on both teams are to be commended for their solid and enthusiastic performances. The visitors played a fast- wheeling, strong forechecking style that gave them a- large edge in shots on goal and a 1-0 lead till only 32 seconds were left to play. Chris Monsma was tremendous in goal for the Mal- monts in stopping many hard shots and foiling Belleville re- peatedly. The stingy Belleville goalie and stand-up defence thwarted the offensive opportu- nities that our offensive efforts created, until the dying seconds when speedster Dean Van Camp came out to block a shot at his own blue line. The puck bounced out of his zone and he raced the lone defender to the Belleville goal and stuffed the puck through the "five-hole" for a dramatic 1-1 game-ending tie. Fans from both towns left the rink with high appreciation for this playoff-calibre minor hock- ey. Strong Malmont efforts were given by forwards Adam Moynes, Chris Skerratt and Monday Night Ladies Oct. 18 Team Standings: Sapphire Stars 21, Emerald Strikes 15, Ruby Lips 10, Diamond Studs 7, Amethyst Aces 5, Pearls N. This time our ! players did the tavelling and appeared surprisingly alert for a Saturday morning as they | had a lost more shots on goal in the first two periods while keep- ing Belleville off the board. Centres Billy Carr, Jason Whitworth and Dane Gray were working hard on faceoffs in try- ing the win the draw back to the & defence as well as back check- ing to cover their defensive slot territory. Scott Brownson and Steven Wygerde were scram- bling intently for loose pucks and trying to find open areas around the Belleville defensive zone. After two periods it was still goose eggs for both teams and our fans were delighted to see such spirited play by both goal- ers and their "out-men". And they = they happened...The Floods!! Firstly there was the intermission ice flood (that in retrospect soaked our own mo- mentum) and then there was "the flood of Belleville momen- tum as they finally squeezed the puck past Chris for an early third period goal and a lead that. they wouldn't relinquish this time. Some sticky ice, pen- alties, bad breaks and our gen- eral loss of comipostire made the * third period successful for the Belleville boys as they went on to a 4-0 shutout win. Good efforts were once again given by blue-liners- Matt Cracknell, Sean Jeffrey and Joel Thomson in support of Chris in net. All in all, the Malmonts can. hold their heads high after five strong "periods of hockey against a very talented and - tough hockey 'club. Similar strong efforts should help achieve further team success in upcoming games in Uxbridge on Oct. 28 and at home against Oshawa on Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. 1430 King St., Port Perry 985-2234 1994 Membership Applications Membership Description 1994 Rate Rate If Paid By November 15, 1993 FULL MEMBERSHIP Mens Ladies Husband & Wife Seniors (56+) 'Seniors Husband & Wife (65+) $1100. $1000. $625. 500. $626. 500. 880.. 460. 800. $676.
