This game proved to be every- thing that it was billed to be with excellent hockey being played by these two teams. Some of the spectators were even heard to comment that with the calibre of hockey being played it was hard to believe that it was house league hock- ey. East Gwillimbury came out flying as expected with numer- ous scoring chances early in the game but the Swampers goal- tender Doug Short was equal to the task making some fine saves giving his offence a chance to get it in gear. Get it in gear is what they did as Jeremy Bouchard got the Swampers on the board first banging in his own rebound with Jamie Sauter and Nick Skerratt assisting. The Sauter, Bouchard tandom clicked again on their next shift as this time it was Jamie Sauter banging it home from Jeremy Bouchard to give the Swampers a 2-0 lead at the end of the first period. The second period had East Gwillimbury once again press- ing hard but were again turned back by Short as he stopped a couple of breakaways and made some good glove saves. Then again as in the first period it was the Swampers cashing in on their chances as Kris Woot- ton tucked one in with Jay Fletcher and Greg Bonser as- sisting on the play to give the Swampers a 3-0 lead. East Gwillimbury kept press- ing and their forwards started going to the net hard and it paid off as they managed to pick up two goals in the dying minutes of the second period to make it a 3-2 score going into the third. The third period was a defi- nite display of offence as the two teams exploded for seven goals between them. First it was East Gwillimbury tying the game at three a piece as they continued IGA Juniors + The Port Perry I.G.A. Juniors evened their league record at 1- 1 with an exciting well played match. The game opened with the two teams testing each oth- er trying to find points to at- tack. Port hit the scoreboard first when Natasha Burgess fed Shona Moase who snapped a hard wrist shot past the Missis- sauga goalie. The lead went to two after Shona found Lisa Bonser inside the extended play line. Lisa cut around the defence and lifted a quick shot into the short side. Cara Vander Slagt increased the lead to three completing an excellent passing play started by Natasha, centred by Shona which caught the Mississauga defence up ice. Port seemed to be on the way to domination when with just nine seconds left in the opening period, the visi- tors hit the scoreboard. For much of the second period the play was up and down the ice gyith neither side finding gaining an edge. Again with the I.G.A. team short handed Mis- sissauga found the range to nar- row the score to 3-2. The stage was set for an exciting finish. From the ensuing free pass Natasha sent the ring up the middle to Shona. The opposi- tion defence was expecting Sho- na to pick up the ring but she was unable to reach the pass. It carried past everyone to Dana Hooker who had broken to the net. Dana promptly snapped an excellent wrist shot into the net to return Ports' two goal lead. Not to be denied, Mississauga scrambled back into the game with Port in the penalty box. With 3:11 to play Port was cling- SKATE SHARPENING 1/2 PRICE ti even record ing to a narrow 4-3 lead. The play went back and forth for the remainder of the game with the visitors desperately trying to pull their goalie. Port had one opportunity to put the game on ice but the ring slipped by the empty net. In the dying seconds of the game Katig'Senyk, again spectacular in fiet, kicked out her left pad to s¢cure the victory for the 1.G.A. squad. An excel- lent game by dll. The Swampers regained the lead as Jay Fletcher bulged the twine with Nick Skerratt assisting to 'make it 4-3. East Gwillimbury continued to fight back as again they tied it up but again the Swampers fought hard and Jay Fletcher clicked for his second of the game as he was set up by Kris Wootton and Jeremy Gib- son to give their team a 5-4 lead. Still not ready to give up East Gwillimbury banged one in off the crossbar to tie things up at 5-5. The Swampers came right back with probably the nicest passing play of the game as it was Jeremy Gibson starting it off to Cory Wytrazyk who re- layed it to Kris Wootton at the edge of the crease and he fired one high under the crossbar giv- ing the Swampers a 6-5 lead. The Swampers had been tak- ing a l6t of penalties in their last few games: and knew that they had to cutjthese down. In this game they'had done just that as they went penalty free until the last minute when they took an unnecessary roughing penalty. This was all East Gwillimbury needed as while on the power play they fired one in to again tie the game up at six a piece. With less than 30 seconds to go in the game the Swampers wer- en't about to settle for a tie and almost pulled it off in the dying seconds as Kris Wootton just missed the top corner but final- ly time ran out and the Swam- pers had to settle for the tie. Showing good hustle and two way play were Lisa Bonser and Cory Wytrazyk. The line of Kris Wootton, Jay Fletcher and Jere- my Gibson did some good play- making once they got it on track. And everyone did an ex- cellent job of cutting down the penalty minutes.
