The primary concern of the members is that the report is too broad and does not consider the diversity of the Greater Toronto Area. The group argues that the area is composed of urban, sub- urban and rural areas and therefore "one planning policy does not make sense in different parts of Ontario." "To make one provincial poli- cy and apply it uniformly to a di- verse situation will surely be heading for trouble," the letter stated. Mayor Hall said they were hoping to impress upon the min- ister that the integrity of the ru- ral communities must be pre- served and that the government must recognize the difference between urban and rural. Although no clear answers were given, Mayor Hall said all those at the meeting were en- couraged by the minister's re- sponse and interest. He antici- pates that the minister will use the comments to create draft legislation. yor Hall believes the min- ister listened to them due to the clout which the group held. The contingent that met with Mr. Philip last week represented the 32 mayors from the Greater Toronto Area. . "I think he recognized that we were there representing a reall Infltestial group," Mayor Hall said.
