Perhaps this was the beginning of a lifelong love for things nautical. I still own the steamer trunk that was used by my Grandfather in his travels. Tom Drummelsmith, vice- principal at PPHS, said the re- sponse to the program has been - encouraging since it was first announced last week. "We've had good response to it from both parents and stu- dents," he said. Mr. Drummelsmith added that a number of students had expressed an interest in partici- pating in the day-long program even before it was formally an- nounced. " Students will reap a number of benefits by attending their parents' place of work, he said. It allows the students to gain practical experience in learn- ing, provides them with an idea of what the real world is like, and gives them an opportunity to see their parents in the work atmosphere. "It will be a real experience," he said. "Many will find that the real world is a lot worse than school.' "I'm really convinced that stu- dents don't understand how hard their parents'jobs are.' Although the students will spend oy. away from school, Mr. Drummelsmith said it will not be a day off for the students. Each student is required to com- plete lead-up material as well as participate in workshops after thoex rience. e on the job they are re- ahred to interview at least Fo workers and complete a questionnaire.
