Surprise entertainer was Graham Townsend, longtime champion fiddler of North America who arrived along with his son Gray Townsend. What a great thrill for many of the audi- ence to see and hear this well- known celebrity in person. On Sunday morning, a large congregation attended the 106th Anniversary Service of the building of the present United Church. Special music was presented by both the Jun- ior and Senior Choirs. Guest speaker was Rev. John Shear- man who gave an impressive sermon "For Christ's Sake"! A social time followed the service. Choirs from St. John's, Blackstock United, Nestleton United and Nestleton St. Ber- nadette's Roman Catholic Churches individually and to- gether thrilled the congrega- tion with their musical num- bers. Readings and a short homily, along with congrega- tional singing, combined. for an impressive service. A time of fellowship followed. A reminder that .the Open House in honor of Valerie Van Camp and her groom-to-be, Ron Linton, will be held at the Unit- ed Church C.E. Room next Sun- day afternoon, Nov. 14. Mrs. Flora Samells is very proud of her grandson Ken Sa- mells who has been taking a course in Photography in To- ronto. He received top marks for his display of pictures and won a $1,200 camera. While neither was chosen as the final- ist, Jean Adams was thrilled to be supporting her sister-in-law Margaret Down who was cho- sen Woman of the Year - Com- munity Service. A very, very impressive evening. A birthday supper was held at the home of Nancy and Bob Bryans. Their family all-attend- ed - Gord and Deb, Leanna and Christina 'Bryans, Patti and Rick Alpe, Nathan and Emma, all of Blackstock and Steve and Lorinda Bryans and Mark, Bowmanville. Those celebrat- ing were Christina, six years old, Mark, two years, as well as Patti and Rick Alpe. Happy birthday! Local folk were interested to see Blackstock Fair featured in Tips and Snips, a fiew publica- tion from Bowmanville. A group of friends surprised Neil Werry on Sunday evening when they arrived to celebrate his 65th birthday. Happy birth- day, Neil. Grant and Barb Larmer, along with daughter Roxanne and her friend Bruce Boivin of Toronto, returned home last Thursday after a lovely two and "a half week holiday touring B.C. and Alberta. They enjoyed a few days at each place, end- ing up on Vancouver Island as far north as Port Alberni. Other points of interest were Edmon- ton, Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, the Okanagan Valley, Vancouver, Victoria and Nanai- mo. They also attended the pretty wedding of Danielle Larme (daughter of Ray and Diane) to Sgt. Sean Jessop at Pickering United Church on Oct. 16. Sean is stationed at Calgary and the Grant Larm- ers were their first guests from Ontario since their marriage. Bob and Joyce Fraser of Cam- bridge were weekend guests of Jean and Merrill Van Camp. The Girl Guides have intro- duced a new cookie for the fes- tive season. We are planning a door-to-door blitz on Nov. 20. * Next Saturday evening, the annual Cartwright High School Commencement will be held at the C.C.P.S.
