RT a A em a sl = wi NE MES "A Family Tradition for 127 Years" Mabel (of: 1" C1 As Remembrance Day ap- proaches once again, Thursday, Nov. 11, let us pause and re- member the truly valiant sons of Canada who paid the su- preme sacrifice through two world wars, and gave their lives so that we might live to see a better world! We cherish their memory! Birthday Celebrated Family members planned a very interesting birthday cele- bration on Saturday evening for Calvin Holland of Edgerton Road. They met at the Chinese Letters fo the editor Don't get too excited To the Editor: I recently read some quotes in the Port Perry Star under the headline prepared for the Liberals work project". Some council members spoke as if suddenly money would be made available for Scugog projects. This statement has left me somewhat amazed. While having no intention of knocking a new Liberal govern- ment in its infancy, I must point out that Ontario's share of the Liberals work project would be $400 million in the first year. The proposed new federal plan would inject $2 billion across Canada over a two-year period. (This is contingent on matching funding from the provinces and the municipalities.) On the other hand, the Onta- rio government has injected $4 billion into infrastructure in our province so far. Before getting too excited over what may occur in Scugog Township, one should compare dollar amounts already commit- ted by our own provincial gov- ernment to this area, and the amount of improvements to roads, bridges and the like, that have already taken place in the Riding of Durham East. After an excellent meal they returned home for a time of sociability. Lovely gifts and cards were received by Calvin during the evening. Those present for this gala oc- casion were wife Yvonne, sons Chad and Craig, and daughter Alannah, mother Neta Fish, Edgerton Road, sister Audrey and husband Jim Leishman and son Tom of Reaboro. Sister Marlene Bannister of Peterbo- rough was unable to attend. Very best wishes to Calvin for many more happy birthdays! The deer hunters were on the move during the week in the Cartwright area. Deer were plentiful in this neck of the woods. Do not know how suc- cessful the hunters were. They presented a colorful sight in their hunting clothes as they took offon their annual hunt! A good many Nestleton friends have visited at the home of Alan and Eleanor Cawker of Oshawa, while yours truly has been recuperating after a seri- ous illness. We were delighted to have Russell and Edda Bow- man of St. Christopher Beach this past Friday for a noon luncheon and an enjoyable visit was a highlight before they left for home! His blood count is low which is under- standable with this type of treatment but he assures me it only takes time to build up. In- fection is his biggest enemy and due to this he would appreciate no visitors or flowers. Should you care to send him a get well card his present address is as follows: David Dietlein, 26 Broadbent Ave., Scarborough, Ont. M1K4R2. The hall board's monthly meeting dealt with: wind up of payments for their very success- ful Halloween dance.; final preparations for the bazaar, Nov. 27; they gave me all the coming dates and events for the year 1994; and we were honored by having Mayor Howard Hall in attendance.
