Fittingly the first period ended in a scoreless tie. The second period was the same as the first with continued fast-paced action. It was to be the Swampers who would break out on top first as Alex Bedell tipped a pass over to Brennen Arsenault who fired it home giv- ing his team a 1-0 lead. At the midway point of the second peri- od Jay Fletcher broke over Em- merson's blue line on a partial breakaway but was taken down by an Emmerson defender banging his head hard on the ice. Jay was taken to Port Perry Community Memorial Hospital where he was checked for a pos- sible concusson and after re- ceiving medical attention he was released and sent home with a headache. With time running down in the second period and Emmer- sons killing off a penalty it was Swamps big Nick Skerratt that picked off a clearing attempt and blasted one into the net to give his team a 2-0 lead with only one second left in the peri- od. "The intense play continued into the third and Emmersons closed to within one as Dan McKay made an end to end rush getting a good shot on net that was stopped but it was Paul Shrigley who was Johnnie-on- the-spot banging in the rebound to make it a 2-1 game. Both teams continued the all out at- tack but just couldn't get any- thing past these two stingy goal tenders and the Swampers held on for a 2-1 win. Playing a strong game for Emmersons were Jeff Whitfield and Matt Mantell while Bren- nen Arsenault and Cory Wytra- zyk played well for the Swam- pers. The Swampers now take their show on the road as they play against East Gwillimbury on Nov. 13in Sharon with a 7:16 p.m. start. Juniors give whole-hearted effort Playing with just seven skat- ers, the IGA Juniors played a super game in a losing cause. They were edged 4-3 by host Markham Saturday night. Cara Vander Slagt opened the scoring with just 40 seconds gone, with an excellent wrist shot. Setting up Cara were Lisa Bonser and Dana Hooker, with some fine passing. Markham came storming back midway through the first period with two quick goals within a minute of each other, while Port was short-handed. The lead was increased to 3-1, three minutes later, again with the IGA squad with a player in the penalty box. Port showed lots of character with two goals of their own be- fore the end of the first period to even the score at threes. Dana completed a three-way passing play that showed the power this team can generate, when she drilled a low wrist shot past the Markham net- minder. The play started when goalie Katie Senyk put the ring into play, after one of her many superlative saves, to Natasha Burgess. Natasha moved the ring up to Cara in the centre ice area and quickly on to Dana. Cara started the play on the ensuring free pass. She fed the ring into the Markham end to Natasha who found Lynda Payne in the slot., Lynda snapped the ring smartly into the top left corner to even the score at the end of the first peri- od. The play was even for most of the second period but it was Markham who managed to break the deadlock with 10 min- utes remaining. Port had their Games played every Monday night at R.H.
