a Na -------- ---- wo Ng ------ -- 36- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 9, 1993 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Woody's and Monsma contin- ued to lead the pack after this week's play as both of them won their respective games as did the B&R Swampers. In the first game of the day, B&R Electric/Swamp Garage emerged victorious with a 5-2 win over The Framer's Gallery. The Swampers started the ball rolling early in the first on a goal by Brian Pomeroy from Mike Geer and Mike Mole. The Framer's tied it up shortly thereafter when K. Smith tal- lied with help from Scott Blyth. In the second half of the affair, the Swampers poured it on as they notched four straight. M. Butt picked up the hat trick with the additional single going to Brian Robinson. Mole added an assitional two assists with Pineridge Atoms win last two games . On Tuesday, Nov. 2 our boys travelled to Peterborough. The first period saw our guys fall be- hind 2-0, to a very aggressive Peterborough team. In the second period Sean Martin was injured and re- moved from net. Our guys now had to play without a goaltend- er due to Ryan Woods being sick. I have to give them credit for their spunky play as they played very tight defensive hockey the rest of the game. Weisflock made a couple of hard rushes to the Petes end but came up short. Thank you Petes for lending us a great goalie for the remainder of the game. The end result was a 7-1 loss to the Petes. Our goal was scored by Gerard Timmers, as- sisted by Ian Garnett. On Thursday our home game was against Stouffville which saw our guys perform a great game with a 2-1 victory. Thanks to some excellent goal tending from Martin and Woods. It was a great end to end game with lots of highlights. There was no scoring in the first two periods. Our team had some great plays and passing from some heads up coaching by Rich LeFort, Bill Weisflock and "Randy Wiseman. Finally in the third period Stouffville scored to make it 1-0. Port regrouped to make it 1-1 from a goal by Mike LeFort and assists to Garnett and Tim- mers. Our great defensive staff of John Burnett, Scott Duncan, Jason Howarth and Tyler Hou- thuys kept the game exciting. Our second goal was scored by Ryan Haslam and assisted by Matt McGarry and Mike Milli- gan. Great game men. Nov. 6 we travelled to Oshawa to play the Blackhawks and see our guys pull together to play a great game. We were short a few guys, but coaching staff put together a very produc- tive team and we came up with a 7-0 victory and a much needed boost. Thanks to Martin and Woods it was our first shut out of the year. First period saw Mike Dalby score from Mike Wiseman and Matt Skerratt, then Ian Gar- nett scored assisted by Tim- mers. At 6:48 of the first period Milligan deaked around the de- fence to score a hard fought goal, assists to McGarry and Skerratt. With time running out of the first Timmers had an unassisted goal. The second period saw the Blackhawks bring the play to Swamp defeats Framer single helpers going to Robin- son, Jarett Harman, M. Price, Dale Lown and Wayne Lown. The final goal of the game went to the Framer's Warren Strong with Eric Kristensen picking up the assits. Game two had the Brooklin Bruins blanking Emmerson's Insurance 5-0. Nick Attwood collected the first two markers to set the pace for the Bruins. Before the first half had ended they were up 3-0 as Kevin Ibbit- son also tallied. The second half scorers were Dan Jansma and Greg Lepine adding singles each. Wayne Tate recorded a pair of assists with Rob Kivell and Murray Down adding sin- gles. Goaltender Jim Raaphorst picked up the shutout. The final of the day required overtime before Woody's Auc- us, but great defensive play by Howarth and Houthuys kept the shutout in tack. The only goal was by Wiseman and as- sists to LeFort and Garnett. The last 15 minutes saw the boys score a goal by Garnett and assist to Wiseman. Ryan Has- tions prevailed with a 4-2 score over the Blackstock Brewers. It looked like Blackstock might pull off a minor upset here as they led from early in the game on a goal by Wayne McGuigan from Gord Bryans. This held up until Woody's tied it with just 3:34 to play on a short-handed goal by Ken St. Amant from Rob Mason and Neil Woodrow. In the overtime, Ron Short from McGuigan and Ron Red- man again put the Brewers back in front. Woody's then turned it on and capitalized on some errors to forge ahead with three straight. These went to Mason, Tom Powell and Char- lie Dennis. Mason also picked up an additional assist as did Dennis and St. Amant, with a pair going to Powell. lam played a great defensive game by tying up his man and not allowing them to make and feed passes. We are now 2-0 in our last two games. Keep up the good team spirit and remind Burnett that size six skates are hard to find. Eaglettes defeat strong squad 3-0 The XL Gas Bar Eaglettes, Novice C Ringette team, played their second game on Sunday, Nov. 7 at Scugog Arena. The players were able to take the lessons learned in practices onto the ice and win their game against a strong Oshawa team by a score of 3-0. The Port Perry team was backed up by another good per- formance in goal by Janna Os- tafichuk and great defensive ef- forts by Alaina Burger, Marci Burger, Ashley Aldridge and Jackie Pashley. Against a tough checking Oshawa squad, Jackie was able to slip a pass to Christine Cotie Used Cars OTr 8 passenger ... Loaded 1989 DODGE DAKOTA ... 1988 FORD BRONCO ... 4 X 4 ... Kristin scored the third goal unassisted, by showing sheer determination in battling through the Oshawa defence, picking up her own rebound and- flipping the ring into the net. Of special note were excellent performances by Ceilidh Bax- ter, Ashley Aldridge, Jenna Davison and Whitney Reid who, through their own hard work, helped create the scoring oppor- tunities for the other players. i Kil ; B HOARE BOB JAMIESON Lasylopet tv... This was their second meeting of the year, and Ux- bridge had a score to settle, af- ter losing the first battle 7-3. Greg Fitzgerald opened the scoring for Port at the 9:00 mark of the second period, with assists going to Ridgway and Desautels. By the end of the second peri- od, Uxbridge took the lead 2-1 with goals from Dave Leming and Barklee Perry. Assists went to Zeller, Pegg, and Lun- ney. Port started to play better in the third to overcome the one- goal deficit and regain the lead. Steve Stiles netted both goals and Leask, McEnaney, Fitzge- rald, and Card drew assists. Be- fore Port could run the time off the clock, Uxbridge tied the game up for good with Ferguson and Lunney setting up Shane Pegg. The game ended 3-3. In this chippy affair both teams managed 20 minutes each in penalties, and combin- ing for three game misconducts; a result of very tight officiating. On Oct. 21, of last week, the Key-Bar Juveniles hosted Belleville. Port was coming off a great 2-0 record. Belleville was determined to bring Port's short streak to an abrupt end. By the end of the third period, that is just what they did - defeating Port 7-6. Port's goals went to: Jeff Card (two), Ryan Ridgway, Darrell Vanderligt, and Sean McEna- ney. Ridgway, Card (two), De- sautels (two), Vanderligt (two), cEnaney, and Parry contrib- uted with assists. "Less than a week later Port Perry travelled to Omemee looking to make up for their dis- appointing loss to Belleville. In a game filled with fighting, cheap-shots, dirty checks, and poor refereeing, both teams de- cided to do everything else other than play hockey. Deservingly, Port was handed their second loss in as many games -9 - 5. The final two goals were scored while Port had their goalie pulled. The slight glim- mer of offence resulted in five less-than-pretty goals from Sean McEnaney, Ryan Ridg- way, and Darrell Vanderligt (hat trick). Assists went to Parry, McE- naney, Ridgway, Desautels, Garvock and Wylie. This game could have easily turned out in Port's favor with a little more sensible hockey playing. It was a sad performance from a bunch of talented players - a team that has an honest chance at making it to the All Ontario finals. Van Camp, Re/Max win Van Camp § - Haugens 4 Scott Lennox, the goaltender for Haugens, was pulled for the last few minutes of the game but to no avail as Van Camp managed to hang on to their lead. Goal scorers for Van Camp were Chris McKitterick and Justin Saunders with a pair each and Robert Schaump with a goal and an assist as well. Other assists went to Gabriel Benschop, Joey Lane and Jo- seph Kozlinsky. The goaltender for Van Camp was Pierce Jones. Scoring for Haugens was Jus- tin Shinn and Travis Black with one each, Chris Wygerde com- ing up with a pair as well as an assist. Other assists for Hau- gens went to Joei Campbell with a pair and singles went to Shane Jeffrey, Scott Symes and Travis Black. Re/Max 8 Port Perry Printing 4 ax came up victorious in this match. Wesley Langmaid had his first hat trick of the sea- son while Stewart Cochrane, Devon Ferguson netted a pair and Tyler Lee with a goal and a pair of assists. Assists also went to Peter Konstantinopoulos with a pair, Wesley Langmaid, Clayton Gilmore, Caleb Beer, Mike Whalen and Stormy Woot- ton all had an assist each. Goal scorers for the Printers were Derek Bond, Mark Lott, Ryan May and Clay Trainor netting one each. Assists were credited to Jonathan Breen, Greg Hunter and Luke Pilkey. Minding the nets for Port Perry Printers was James Stevenson and Steve Groves for Re/Max.
