More than $400 raised for UNICEF The Greenbank Guides had a fun-filled weekend at Camp Sa- mac, with a total of 14 campers. There was never a dull moment. We spent most of our time out- side playing games, at night as well as in the day, to achieve our Stalker Badge. We made a Christmas present for our moms and we went on a two- hour hike. Everyone had a great time and we are looking for- ward to our next camp. Our con- gratulations to the fine leader- ship these girls do enjoy. At our Communion service on Sunday morning, Ryan Mat- thew Beal was baptized. He is Crafty Christmas for Maurice and Eliza Fralick celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with their family on Saturday, Nov. 13. Scugog Shores Historical Museum And Village On Saturday, Oct. 30 there was a Memorial Service for Yo- shio Hikida held at the newly restored Head Memorial Church. Lunch was provided by the Head U.C.W. Yoshio had al- ways been a great supporter of our village and had made a won- derful difference to many peo- ple including those who visited Aldred's Corner Store. Yoshio's the son of Suzanne and Donald Beal and grandson of Judy and Jim Gibson. He was sponsored by Judy and her other daughter Bonnie. Also attending this joy- ous occasion were Ryan's other grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Gillespie. Ladies, please remember our Greenbank Women's Institute meeting on Wednesday Nov. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the home of Bet- ty Stone. Come and bring a friend. Mrs. Muriel Gibson spent the weekend visiting in Bewdley with her daughter Darlene and Dale Ridge and enjoyed her grandchildren Jillian and Kyle. This year's Halloween fund raising effort for UNICEF has been the best yet. A total of $408.21 was raised by Green- bank's school children on Hallo- ween night. Many thanks to the students who carried UNICEF boxes, the families which donat- ed coins and the people who helped roll the coins! Our con- kind and giving nature was al- ways present. We will miss her dearly. On Tuesday, Nov. 9 the Lake Scugog' Historical Society wel- comed author Brendan O'Brien as their guest speaker to talk about his book "Speedy Jus- tice." As many as 40 people lis- tened with great interest as he - talked about the 1804 murder at Washburn Island. His book is available at Books Galore. It would make a great Christmas present for all those "history buffs" out there. Scugog Island Women's Institute The Scugog Island Women's Institute are holding their "Crafty Christmas" meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. at the Island Hall. Don't forget the gift exchange. Out silent auction baby quilt was sold for $50 and our Pennies for Friendship jars re- alized a goodly amount of $340. Choir practice will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. The Youth Group for Grades 6-8 will meet on Friday, Nov. 19 from 6-7:30 p.m. at S.1.U.C. On Sunday, Nov. 21 a service of baptism will be held at 9:45 a.m. Sunday School and Nur- sery care provided. Don't forget to mark Satur- day, Nov. 27 on your calendar. The Sunday School is sponsor- ing an Advent Party at S.1.U.C. from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The whole congregation is invited to attend and the program is de- signed for all ages. Have a good week Friendly Visitor committee Fred and Aileen Olsen spent last weekend in Toronto with son Tom and Sue and their little grandson. Aileen was celebrat- ing another birthday. On Wednesday evening the U.CW. held their monthly meeting with 13 ladies present. The devotion was taken by Jan- et Vernon, and Dianna Brough. Reading by Janet, "The Flam- ing Torch," followed by scrip- ture from Luke. Hymn "Ye Ser- vants of the Lord" was sung. A true Christian was read, fol- lowed by "How will you be re- membered," read by Dianne. Meeting closed with prayer. The secretary then read the minutes of last meeting and treasurer gave her report. The beef supper was a great success again. Committee reports were given. Members will be having their pot luck Christmas meet. ing in December with each one to bring a guest. More details in weeks to come. A committee was put in to look after gifts for shut-ins at Christmas and Friendly Visitors dinner. The up decided to send a gift of 150 to the Crandell family to help pay for special crib. A tasty lunch was served by Linda McMillan and Dorothy Hope. Thursday evening was eu- chre night again with 10 tables. Winners: Alma Manns, Bernice Daniels, Mary Williamson, Merv Storie, Bernice Appleton, Richard Manns. Lucky draws: Doug Stanfield, Ken Reesor, Milton Anderson. Sympathy is sent out to Grace Manns and Gary Munro on the sudden death of their father Andy, last Sunday. Friends of Sylvia Lindsay are sorry to hear she is in Oshawa Hospital with a broken hip. Heather Bredin has arrived home after several days in hos- pital with abroken leg.
