"A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 23,1993 - 5 Plaza to see lights by January . Motorists will soon see the light, as a potentially danger- ous intersection will be getting signals. . The project to install traffic lights outside the Port Perry Plaza on Highway 7A, east of Water Street, will go to tender In two weeks, Mayor Howard Hall said. The tender will call for the Project to be completed by Janu- "Ro ad widening to accommo- date a new plaza across the street will not be included in the tender process. The lights will work in syn- cronization with the existing lights to the west of the plaza. Mayor Hall was pleased that the lights, which are being fund- ed by the Ministry of Transpor- tation, were finally being in- stalled. He has been calling on the ministry for a number of years to help alleviate the situation at the busy intersection. Current- ly Ontario Provincial Police con- trol traffic on weekends at that location. "There's been a number of ac- cidents there and it's causing a dangerous situation," he said. "This will make it a better intéy- section and safer for the customn- ers." He noted the intersection will become even busier when a large residential and commer- cial development is built in the future at that location. The installation of the lights was first discussed with Gilles Pouliot, Minister of Transporta- tion, during a meeting in Janu- ary, 1992. At this meeting a number of items were discussed including traffic signals, barriers on the causeway and improved sign- age. Mayor Hall notes that all the areas discussed have now been acted upon.
