"A Family Tradition for 127 Years" It was thrilling to watch 'Fa- ther Goose', as Bill Lishman is nicknamed, on the program 20- 20 from United States on Fri- day evening. It was truly amaz- ing to watch the 18 Wild Cana- da Geese fly with him to Virginia. To see them fly in a long row and land in Pennsylva- nia and New York state after crossing Lake Ontario was beautiful to watch. To fly over 400 miles from Purple Hill was a joy to see. He raised these geese from the egg and as gos- lings, which is why they consid- er him "Father Goose'. All of his family must be so proud of Bill, as they all helped in this ex- traordinary plan. Of course no one is too surprised at this, as everyone around Blackstock and Purple Hill can tell you what he is really famous for - his home! This, along with his family of Canada Geese was written up in my 'Country really a famous Canadian! We are proud of you and your fami- ly. Most of this year's group were also Jazzmerize members last year when the group performed at Musicfest Canada in Edimon- ton. The group rehearses twice a week and they demonstrate a great deal of commitment to the pursuit of excellence in choral music. Many of these students are also members of other bands and-choirs at Port Perry High School. Currently, PPHS has over twelve co-curricular performing groups including three concert bands, two jazz bands, a concert choir and a number of small ensembles. They are very active in both community and festival perfor- mances throughout the year. Their Director, Charles White, has taught. with the Durham Board of Education for 21 years and has experience in both the elementary and secon- dary panels. He became head of music at Port Perry High School in 1982, and it was then that his students encouraged him to find out what vocal jazz was' all about. Charles spent three years away from Port High in the position of Music Consultant for the Durham Board, and he continues to di- rect the Durham Music Camp. He also has considerable expe- rience as a vocal adjudicator and clincician, and is currently the executive director of the On- tario Vocal Festival. : Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hill at- tended the Frank Mills concert * in Lindsay where the Lindsay; - College choir took part.
