Killens and Graham He- The Port Perry Peewee Le- gionaires travelled to St. Thom- as last weekend for the St. Thomas Early Bird: Tourna- ment, the Legionaires' first tournament of the season. Sat- urday morning they played their first game of four, on the weekend, against the .Simcoe Kinsmen. With Shane Savage playing well in net, the skaters in great form and only one pen- alty, Port outscored the Simcoe team 5-1. It was obvious the boys had come to play hockey. § Less than two minutes into the game, Adam Jones buried a wrist shot behind the goalie, as- sisted by Seth Gray, the only - goal in the first period. In the second, Port scored three unan- swered goals. Adam Hobbs scored on a nice pass from Jones. Three minutes later, Ca- sey vanSchagen blasted a slap- shot past the Simcoe goalie, as- sisted by Glenn McCready. A minute later Casey scored again on the power play with Adam Jones getting another well-earned assist. Late in the third period, Simcoe finally found the mark but a minute later Seth Gray streaked past their defence for a breakaway and making no mistakes, he notched Port's fifth and final goal. Adam Jones got his. fourth assist of the game. The final score was 5-1 for Port. Legionaires' spirits. In the opening period, a man short, Adam Jones scored his first goal of the game on a pass from Seth. Owen Sound scored in the final minute to tie the score. Not to be outdone, Jones scored his second of the game, unassisted, with only two seconds left on the clock. The second and third period were all Port's. Only 17 second into the second period, Danny Lyons scored from Ian Parliament on the power play. Again on the power play, Adam Jones scored his third goal of the game assisted by Derek Tin- dall. Great effort Adam, a hat trick, WOW! In the third peri- od, Troy completed Port's scor- ing with an end-to-end rush, as- : sisted by Glenn. The final score again was 5-1 for Port. Dann Lee was awesome in net, stop- ping several breakaways and allowing only one goal. ~ On Sunday morning, we met the host team from St. Thomas. Halfway through the first peri- od in the midst of a goal mouth crowd, Seth redirecfed a pass from Troy Campbéll for the first goal of the e and 30 seconds later,, St/ Thomas ot their only goal. A ghort time 1at- er, Casey scored from Seth after several nice passes back and forth. The godlie didn't know who was going to shoot. ' Pineridge At \ oms meet nemesis from Lindsay On Thursday, Nav. 25, Pine- ridge Atoms hosted Lindsay. In the first meeting between the two they ended up in a 2-2 tie. The second game proved to be very different as Lindsay scored within eight seconds of the puck ing dropped. This seemed to oir our boys up and we started to play well with. many great socorin opportunities by all three Ines. Defence was holding well at the blue line, it just seemed to be one of those games where we didn't get any bounces or we just got robbed by Lindsay goal- tenders. Things started to look up for us when late in the second peri- od Ian Garnett passed to Gerald Timmers who looked up and made a beautiful pass to Trevor Weisflock who tucked it in the net. Unfortunately that ended our scoring but not Lindsay who came up with two more goals in the third. We must take into consideration that half of our boys were in a volleyball tour- nament that day and were a lit- tle tired, right guys* We travel to Peterborough this Tuesday, Nov. 30 and then are off to Stayner this Saturday, good luck boys. late Saturday evening, but the long wait did not dampen the Bantam's Blades sheds 'some tears in Haliburton This past weekend, the Coun- try Style Bantams travelled to Haliburton to be a part of the Haliburton Highlands Annual Bantam Tournament. We were slotted into a tough division with Campbellford, Bobcay- geon and Tillsonburg. Our first game, on Friday night had us up against a quick, persistant Campbellford Colts squad. After the first period we were down two-zip. Adam Smith got us started tucking the vulcanized rubber disk past the Campbellford tender, as- sisted by Scott Heffern, and Chris Drury. The opposition then answered back with a dinger of their own, making the scorecard read 3-1 after two pe- riods of play. : In the third, we only had one red light, as did the Colts. Scott Heffern put her home, assisted by Adam Smith and Adam Hunter. The final score was Camp- bellford 4 - Port Perry 2: Blades wasn't too ecstatic about this one, reducing him to right eye tears. The coaching staff fired to gear us up for the' next game which was to be played at 1300 hours the next day against Bobcaygeon. We were racing to go in this one, facing mathematical elimina- tion. Jason Logan started the scor- ing on this one, putting the puck where no man was able to reach it, upstairs. Assits went to Ke- -scored an unassisted goal and a Turnto Page 33 vin Gray and Colin Laird. Tom chambers then proceeded to maneuver through the entire Bobcaygeon Minor Bantam Hockey Club leaving parapher- nalia scattered throughout the building, (not to mention num- ber 19s jockstrap which was left dangling from the rafters). Our third marker was put on the board by Adam Smith who icked up a dump-in pass from ark Brownson and wrapped it in the yav ning cage. Going into the third, we were leading 3-0. Bobcaygeon then cut their deficit to one. The guy who started this one decided t to end it as well. Jason Logan snapped it in, this time he took a beauty pass from Kevin Hobbs. Blades, H and Hilly were all "happy" with this one. The final score was Port Perry 4 - Bobcaygeon 2. We then had six hours to re- lax at the Deer Lodge (which was allllllright), before our next game against the Tillsonburg Teddybears. We put forth a great effort, but just didn't get the breaks we needed. Tim Fitzpatrick scored our only twinebiter on a fine play. Tom Chambers and Chris Drury picked up the helpers. At the nik; it was Port Perry 1 - Till- sonburg4. Bic and Lenny both rejected a lot of rubber all weekend long. Upcoming action sees the Country Style Bantams travel to Peterborough on Dec. 4. | f | | | 4 | i 4 a
