I ti oS Ch Sr ial re 4 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 30,1993 "Scugog' Ss Communi Newspaper of Choic ~ Mayor takes concerns to Queen's By Scott Anderson Port Perry Star Inconsistencies with two min- istry offices could affect devel- opment in Scugog, the mayor says. Mayor Howard Hall ex- pressed this concern to Natural Resources Minister Howard Hampton in a meeting at Queen's Park last week. During the 30-minute meet- ing, Mayor Hall argued that dif- fering opinions and directives between offices in Lind- say and Maple are causing de- lays and threatening future de- velopment i in the area. Scugog was under the juris- diction of the Lindsay office un- til a restructuring transferred this responsibility to Maple ear- lier this year. But with this transfer came problems for the area. Mayor Hall said he has seen conflicting instructions from the two offic- es. What was acceptable to the Lindsay office is not to the Ma- ple office. This has caused frustration for both the township and devel- opers as they are stalled by red tape after already receiving ap- proval. In particular, Mayor Hall dis- cussed five developments in the area which are at varying phas- es. What is most discouraging to the developers is the "lag time" for response between approval stages. Mayor Hall said there seems to be one rule for everybody, but he would like to see it changed to a dual set of rules in which the rural and urban sectors are treated differently. "Economically we must take a look at these things," he said. "There must be some give and take."
