"A Family Tradition for 127 Years" ER RR IR TRE GE RR SA SO Letters to the editor Happy to be shopping in Scugog K% From Page 6 and did what ever they could to help. Thanks to The Big 'V' gang, Matthew was just fine! As many of you know, Smith & Smith and Bruton Big 'V' have joined forces, I wish them all the best in their new location on Queen St. (With the commit- ment they have for their cus- tomers, I know they'll do well). I would like to share this next story with you: For the last month, I have been driving around with a car that turned many heads, not be- cause it's a fantastic Cruisin' Classic, but because the muffler was so loud. People had to wait until I drove by before they could continue a conversation! I meant to have it fixed but, I 'pairs, just couldn't find a day I could manage without my car. I final- ly stopped into Port Perry Muf- fler and Brakes on Perry St. to face the music! The owner said he would look at it. I waited for the worst. The car was fixed in no time and there was NO CHARGE!! Apparently, it was still under warranty from our last visit. | didn't realize Port Perry Muf- fler had guarantees like the "other big guys in Oshawa." Many thanks to Port Perry Muf- fler for their honesty and great service. Whether you need car re- prescriptions, rentals, groceries, furniture, insurance, eye-glasses or whatever, this quality service is just one of the Gesture not necessary To the Editor: Regarding your Christmas Food Drive advertisement in last week's Port Perry Star. We feel this food drive in Port Perry isneeded and welcomed. Christmas is a time for giving and there is no reason to draw for $560 cash. Those of us who are fortunate enough to give, do not need to be rewarded al- though itis a nice gesture. Folks, whether you drive to the Nestleton General Store, to downtown Port Perry, to The Port Perry Country Market over through Manchester to Utica, whether you go north or south in Scugog, "There are deals in them thar hills!" Some- times we tend to forget this and drive out of Scugog for our shop- ping needs. Our local businesses have real people behind those coun- ters who live in our communi- ties and depend on us to help their business prosper. We count on these people year round to support our hockey and baseball teams, our schools, our library, our mu- seum along with other impor- tant community programs. These businesses are always giving throughout the year, what better time to say thank you than at Christmas. Let's support these active members of our community and thank them for their generosity by shopping Scugog. Remember, the choice is yours, drive your dollars out of Scugog or you can join the grow- ing number of residents who choose to shop Scugog first. Happy and Shopping in Scugog, Kim Harper, Arena should be available for everyone To the Editor: I was interested to read last week's announcement that pub- lic skating at the arena has been expanded to include Thursday afternoons. Unfortu- nately, this does little for those who presently have the least ac- cess to the arena -- families with school age children who are only able to skate after school hours and on weekends. For these families, the fact remains that the only time their children can skate is on Sunday after- noons from 3-4:16 p.m. unless they are enrolled in hockey or figure skating. And, if past years are any indication, things don't improve . during the Christmas break, when no addi- tonal public skating is availa- le. I would urge those who are in charge of allocating ice time to evaluate their priorities. I real- ize that the requirements for minor league hockey are great and that there is only so much ice time to go around. However, the arena was built and oper- ates with public funds. Shouldn't more effort be made to ensure that at times it can be used by all local taxpayers?
