22 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 7,1993 ~~ Co-op student's dream com By Julia Dempsey Port Perry Star Since moving to Scugog Township eight years ago, Jus- tine Wilson has wanted to work at Windfields Farm. That dream has become a re- ality, thanks to Port Perry High School's co-operative education program. "It has been one of my biggest dreams to work here with these horses," Justine told the Port Perry Star. Justine started working at the thoroughbred horse farm in north Oshawa in September as a co-op student. Through the placement program, she is earn- ing credits towards her Grade 12 diploma while gathering val- ugble work experience. Although her co-op program will end in January, Justine's employment at the farm will not. Because of her dedication to the job, Justine has been offered full-time employment once she graduates from high school in January. "Justine is pretty good," said John Neville, yearling manager at the farm. The farm has been involved in the Durham Board of Educa- tion's co-op education program since 1989. This year, nine stu- dents will work at the farm through the program. "Our plan with the co-op stu- dentsis toinvolve themin all as- pects of the horse farm," Mr. Ne- ville said. The students do everything from mucking out stables, to breaking and riding the horses. " gf # A seasoned equestrian, she started riding when she was five years old while living in Strathmore, a village just out- side Calgary, Alberta. e 17-year-old is now gear- ing up for a career with horses. "It's very difficult to find good help," Mr. Neville said. "The pay isn't brilliant. You really have to like horses to work with them." In Justine, Windfields Farm has found someone who truly loves horses. And in Windfields Farm, Justine has seen a dream come true. Farm once she finishes her high school education in January.
