In his early years he man- aged several trading posts in Nige- ria for the United Weat Af Africa Com- pany. In 1933, while on leave from Africa, he met and married Myra Cronkhite from Pickering, Ontario, and in 1938 the couple purchased the family farm and began dairy farming in Pickering, They were one of the first in Canada to employ the milking parlour system. During the 1950s Alan was active in the public school board, and with the Toronto Milk Producers and was instrumental in starting a farmer run milk. transport and a surplus. milk processing plant in Weston. In 1987 he and Myra moved to Sebringvilla, Ontario, having spent the winters at their Florida home. Myra predeceased him in 1989 in her 93rd year. Alan is survived by one sister Josephine Stone of Cam- bridge, England; two daughters Alaine Hawkins of Toronto, Louise McColl of Stratford; one son William A. Lishman of Blackstock: Six grandchildren: Alicia Hawkins, Zilla Parker, Gwyneth Hawkins, Aaron, Geordie and Carmen Lishman. Alan died as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident in Lake Placid, Florida on Tuesday, Novem- ber 30, 1993. His dear friend Joan Rahn of Mitchell also died in the accident.
