White 761 Atom house league Whitby Auto Wreckers ana Scugog Lumber hooked up for a defensive battle that produced outstanding goaltending by Patrick Dearnne of Whitby and Jamie McQuaid of Scugog Lum- ber. Whitby Auto Wreckers pre- vailed 3-0 but required two late goals in the third period to pre- serve a one-goal lead. Beau Jolicoeur scored on a breakaway with 1:15 left in the second to give Whitby the lead. Darren Royle scored both late goals in the third with assists to Robbie Taylor and Jeff Danilko. Excellent defensive work by Cameron Vernest, Mark Rich- ardson, John-Ross Lennox and Robbie Taylor kept Whitby in the game as Scugog pressed early. Jeff Kane and Mike Koury provided solid support on de- fence for the Scugog side. Our thanks to the boys for an enter- taining game. Laurentian took the lead mid- way through the first period, with a goal by Jason Redman. Whitby game back in the second to tie it up and get the lead with two quick goals by Ian Bonser and Steven Schewaga. With 52 seconds to go, Eric Bird made it dead even, going into the third. The third period produced ex- cellent opportunities by both sides, with both goalies keeping the teams at bay. Patrick Dearnne and John Barton were both stars of the game. BUSINESS COMPUTERS . (416) 985-1877 Tweens in tourney action The Port Perry Guardian Drugs Tween As came up against some very competitive teams this past weekend in St. Catharines. With much enthu- siasm the girls were up at 5:30 a.m. to play their first tourna- ment me of the season against Etobicoke. Laura Hooker started the scoring off with two big ones each assisted by Jennifer Elliot. Amanda Wakeford scored the tie breaker with just seconds re- maining on a great pass from Janine Hammond. Final score was 3-2. Lauren Christie played her heart out and certainly is prov- ing her skills in net. Bonni-Jo Norton was particularly strong on defense this game. Ater a bit to eat, the girls were lacing their skates again in preparation for meeting their second opponent, Pickering. This game got completely out of hand with Bonni-Jo receiving two injuries (which affected her ability the rest of the toura- ment) and four other Guardian girls received some unneces- sary roughing. Pickering held a 2-0 lead un- til almost the end of the first pe- riod when Brooke Shanley and Diane Vanderligt set Laura up to brighten the scoreboard. Ja- nine scored two beautiful goals unassisted to take the lead. There was no looking back as Port's momentum grew and Pickering's penalty time grew! On a scoring splurge Jenni- fer, Amanda and Diane each found the mark. Assists were earned by Laura and Bonni-Jo and Brooke and Jennifer with a pair each to end the game 6-3. Alechia Cracknell and Janna Senyk played extremely well on defense and Bonni-Jo and Brooke helped out on the score- board as well as defending La- uren all the way. Three games in one day moved to be too many for our girls as they met the strong Markham team later in the af- ternoon. Each team had their chances at scoring but Port just "ran out of steam." Bonni-Jo's knee injury from the previous game worsened and resulted in her being out for the rest of the game. Each of the forwards got a bit of the action with Jennifer scor- Forder-Parks Insurance Brokers Inc. Lauren was un- doubtedly challenged on sever- al breakaways, stopping most of their strong shots. Final score 5-2, not a bad score considering eight skaters had by this point skated a total of almost 2-1/2 hours at full tilt in one day! With two wins and only one loss the team advanced to the semi-finals Sunday morning against a disciplined Seaforth squad. The size of the Seaforth's players seemed to intimidate our girls for the first few min- utes as Seafdrth scored three fast ones. Soon Port realized their own strengths and Janine scored from Laura and Amanda end- ing the first period 3-1. In the last five minutes of the: second period, Seaforth poured it on taking advantage of Port as they took a few chances to get caught up on the scoreboard. They were defeated by a com- fortable margin. Players, coaches, parents and siblings all totally enjoyed this weekend away. The 10 pin bowl- ing leagues in our area may be increased soon!!' Kevin Crack- nell really does have E.S.P. and Janine learned she can't take a shot with 2/3 of a stick. The five new players to this team learned what "Provincial" calibre is all about and they have something to look forward toin Hamilton this April! Atom house league action Scugog Lumber defeated Port Perry Lions Club 6-1 in Atom House League play Dec. 4. Glen Thompson paced the Lumber- men with a hat trick. Trevor | Robins had a pair and Jon Ro- galski chipped in with a single. Adam Douglas, Andrew Kenny, Darryl Knight, Brian Harris and Mike Kouay each had as- sists. Jamie McQuaid had a strong game in goal. Mike Syt- sma and Jeff Kane played strong defensive games. The lone Lions goal scorer was Chris Medford from Rod- ney Bond. Don Campbell was kept busy in goal and made some good saves. The Lions team gave a good effort for the whole game.
