Game 4 Bowmanville vs Port Perry For The Championship Port came out fast in the first period taking the play right to Bowmanville. Everyone was playing as a team and playing good two way hockey. Bowman- ville came out strong also but they tried the hitting game against Port. Playing a physical game against the Doorsmen is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you find out that the pig enjoysiit. Both teams were up and down the ice trying to get some- thing going and waiting for the other team to make a mistake so they could slam the puck in the net to get on the scoreboard first. The little guys for Port, Blayne Kinnunen, Alex Wor- dley, Ryan McQuade, Scott Harper were looking bigger as the game went on as they were taking the Bowmanville players and introducing them to the boards (slam) yes! Port's defence was playing smart hockey; Harper, Cham- bers, Moynes, and Ryan McQuade. Port scored at 3:21 by Travis Pickard after Scott Sanderson took the puck around the net, out front to Tra- vis but the goal was disallowed because the goalie accidentally G.l.C. The fire alarm started wail- ing with 53 seconds left in the first period. After much confu- sion about the fire alarm the re- ferees stopped the game be- cause it was believed there was a fire in the arena. All the spec- tators went outside and the players waited in the hall near the fire exit waiting for further word on the fire. Was it or not? As it turned out it was a false alarm and everything returned to normal. Where is Don Steel when we need him? The first pe- riod ended scoreless. The second period defensive type period with both teams playing fast, careful hockey. At 13:20 there was a goalmouth scramble in the Port Perry zone and Ryan Moynes and Scott flarper took control of the traf- fic allowing their goalie time to do his jpb. Brad Johnston had his fore- checking game in high gear and the whole team started forcing Bowmanville before they could get going. Aaron Chambers, Scott Harper, Ryan Moynes, Ryan McQuade were on defence and putting the body to Bow- manville on every turn they made. Port lit up the scoreboard first at 4:19 when Travis Pick- ard put a nice pass over to Alex Wordley and say good night Ralph as he slams her home to give Port the lead 1-0. Port had Bowmanville on the ropes as they gave up the hit- ting to stick to straight hockey but, too late as Blayne Kinnu- nen grabs the puck in front of the Bowmanville net over to Da- vid Gainey as he buries it deep in the back of the Bowmanville goal for a 2-0 Port Perry lead. With the second period wind- ing down Bowmanville had Port hemmed in their own end but Port had a good goal also. The second period ended with Port ahead 2-0. Bowmanville started playing a clutch and grab game in the third period trying to slow the Red Machine down. Port's cap- tain was doing some nice play- making at 13:00 trying to get somebody in the clear so they could score. Nick Pelyk was do- ing a good job patrolling the boards and corners. Port Perry was still playing as a team. Ryan McQuade was doing some nice backchecking along with Kyan Moynes and Aaron Cham- ~ bers. Deryk Campbell came so close so many times but kept right on trying. With the period winding down the puck was sliding to- ward the Bowmanville goal and their goalie came out and dove for it but Justin Sheehey poked it and it just slid past the open corner with the goalie still down 16 feet out of his net. Nice try. Bowmanville pulled their goalie with 1:20 left in the game and scored on a busy Port Perry goalie to make it a 2-1 game with just 17 seconds to go. Port Port Perry At dug in and matched Bowman- ville man for man for the 17 sec- onds to defeat the Toros 2-1 and even the Ennismore Tourna- ment. . The players mobbed their goalie after a hard fought game. Playing in goal for Port Perry was Corey Branton. Honorable mention for good hustle and good defensive effort goes to the whole team as they all played like champions. Hope you enjoyed it folks. om team in Peterborough tournament Laurentian Bank Atoms rep- resented Port Perry at the Tri- County House League Tourna- ment last weekend in Little Britain. The Banker's first game was against a tough squad from Oshawa. The game was a tight checking affair with the boys from Port coming out on the short end of a 1-0 score. The second game proved to be a very exciting encounter against another strong team from Oshawa. After coming out a little slow- ly, falling behind 1-0, the Bank- ers came to life with three unan- swered goals. The first goal was a short-handed, unassisted ef- fort by David Halward. The next two goals were scored by Tom MacArthur who has begun to find his scoring touch of late. Assists went to Clayton Dales (two) and Zach #18. Ushawa made it a one-goal game in the third period but the Port squad was able to maintain their one goal lead with some excellent defensive work from Jason Red- man. This win put Laurentian into the 'B' Championship against a very large team from Peterborough. This game was again a very tight-checking af- fair with most of the action tak- ing place in the Port Perry end. The Bankers jumped ahead in the second period when Tom MacArthur finished off a great effort started by wingers Zach Fis and Eric Bird. John Barton, however, proved to be the decid- ing factor in this game, coming up with several incredible saves ° for Laurentian and earning a shutout. Congratulations on your great effort over the week- end, boys! Emiel's takes part in Oakwood tourney 'he Kmiels Peewee team travelled to Oakwood for the Tri-County Tournament on the weekend. Although they came up short at the end of each game, all three games were close and exciting with two de- cided in overtime. 'Game one was played against Ajax. Ajax went ahead 5-2 but instead of giving up we stormed back to tie with some solid rushes by Mark De- laney and Ben Russell. The scoring was by Mark from Chad and hardworking Tom Boyd, Kam Cooper with an end-to-end rush buried in the top corner and Joey's second from Mark Sauter, with his fourth point. Solid defence by Alex McLaugh- lin tying up men in front of our net and also awesome goaltend- ing by David Bonser. Final score 6-5 Ajax. In game two, we faced Oshawa Kingsview. After drop- ping behind 2-0, we hustled back to tie on a goal by Reid McTaggart, assisted by Mark Sauter and Chad Lance scoring from Joey Van Camp and Mark. Once again, super goaltending by David Bonser but Oshawa scored a heartbreaker with one second left on the clock of the overtime period. Game three was also close against Peterborough. Our only scoring play was by Joey Van Camp, on a breakaway, unas- sisted. Numerous chances by Lawrence Cook and Sean Fletcher. Aftér a scoreless over- time period, in which Jon Chambers made several tough stops, the goalies were removed to decide the game five on five. After some hard work by Paul Brain and Tim Wray, Peterbo- rough scored. Tough: way to lose, but these boys should be proud of their effort and their unwillingness to give up.
