Cobourg had previously knocked the Port squad out of the Cobourg Tournament in O.T. in the semi-final game. It was payback time. Danny Lee started in net and the Legion team came storming out of the starting blocks and took a quick three goal lead. Adam Jones assisted by Adam Hobbs and Scott Jeffery, then Scott added one with help from the two Adams. Seth Gray scored his first of a four goal night from Derek Tindall. Cobourg came back with a power play goal to narrow the lead 3-1. Port continued to press and scored two more before the end of the period to take a com- manding 5-1 lead. Adam J. scored shorthanded with a wicked wrist shot to the top cor- ner, assisted by Derek. Seth Gray got his second on a boom- ing slap shot from the blue line after some great three-way passing with Derek and Casey Van Schagen. In the second period the Le- gion team kept up their torrid pace of skating and hard check- ing and added two unanswered goals tolead 7-1. Seth scored his third and fourth goals with help from linemates Derek and Scott. Shane Savage had taken over goaltending duties at the mid point of the second period. The Legionaires had blown some third period leads in the last few games and it was time to see if the boys needed more conditioning work. With this in mind the Legion squad contin- ued their hard work. Again this persistent check- ing paid off with two more goals ending the game 9-1. Ian Parliament tipped a Seth and Danny Lyons passing play behind the Cobourg goalie. Jeff Ashton rounded out the scoring with his first of the season after Joining into the rush and fired the puck into the open net as the Cobourg goalie came sprawling out of the net to cover the loose puck. It was a great team effort. - Seth with his four goal night. Danny and Shane stopping all but one Cobourg shooter. Glenn, Casey, Jeff and Wyatt clearing the front of the net of Cobourg forwards and making good breakout passes to the for- wards. Jon Froats and Troy Campbell played their usual ag- gressive style creating loose pucks, turnovers and keeping the Cobourg team on the de- fence all game. On Dec. 12 Port travelled to Stouffville for the first meeting between the two teams. In the first period the only scoring was by Stouffville to go one up. Early in the second period Scott split the defence but couldn't beat the Stouffville goalie. Stouffville were taking the play to-the Legion team but at the 10:41 mark Derek evened the score on a scramble. Assist went to Jon Froats. Seconds lat- er Derek, with his great speed broke around the Stouffville de- fence but the goalie was up to the challenge and stopped Derk's first shot and the re- bound came back to Derek but again the Stouffville netminder was in the way. Stouffville went ahead 2-1 on their fourth power lay try. b Aes penalty killers were busy and very effective. At the five minute mark Seth broke in alone and scored with a hard wrist shot, assisted by Ca- sey. Once more Stouttville took the lead on another power play chance but one minute later Port came back. Adam J. with a backhand assisted by Scott and Adam H. In the last minute of play in the second period Troy was in on a breakaway but was robbed by the Stouffville goalie. So far it was catch up hockey and it was time for Port to pull up their socks. At the 12:09 mark of the third period, Port was called for two penalties, but with some great penalty killing, Port turned back the Stouffville power play. Port finally took the lead at 9:06 Ian found the mark after a good pass by Danny Lyons. Again a penalty was called on Port but once more the penalty killers came through. In the last minute of play Port kept the pressure on Stouffville Tweens Saturday the Pineridge Sports Tween B Ringette team lost a hard fought game to a strong Markham club. The score was no indication of how well Port played. Jennifer Ham- mond blocked many shots turn- ing in another one of her rock solid efforts in net. Diana, Giselle, Cathy and Jennifer all putin a tough gritty game on defense. Forwards, Leanne, Jennifer, Melissa, Mary, Lisa, Amelie and Amy made some good rushes and did a heck of a lot of backchecking to help out their defense. Port's offense didn't get un- wound until the dying minutes of the last period when Jennifer Imrie scored on a dandy shot as- sisted by Amelie Leveille and Jen Donnelly. Port's other goal and with 19 seconds remaining. Jon with his physical play in the corner outworked the Stouff- ville player came up with the puck and found Seth all alone in the slot. Seth made no mistake and he one timed the pass dent- ing the twine for a final win 5-3. A strong third period by Port. Danny Lee and Shane made many tough saves and stopped 27 of 30 shots. Our penalty kill- ers stopping Stouffville six out of eight power plays once two men short for two minutes. Port had no power play chances. Defence played the man well and forwards played their usual skating and body checking game. Next home game for the Le- gionaires is a return match with Stouffville on Friday, Dec. 19 at 9:15p.m. play two came when Melissa Hooker took a dead on pass from Jenni- fer Imrie to popitin. Sunday's .game was played against Oshawa. The Tweens were really up for this game and it resulted in a 2-2 tie. As usual Jennifer Hammond played a great gamein net. Leanne opened the scoring on a neat pass from Lisa. Oshawa netted a goal to end the first pe- riod at 1-1. Port took the lead early in the second when Mary fired a hard shot past the - Oshawa goal keeper. Assisting on this goal was Deana. Port's one goal lead held until midway through the second when Oshawa tied the game. Congratulations girls on a well played game. Sponsor Linda Barkey of Key Bar Office Equipment presented the Championship trophy to Lindsay captain Jason Teal. Mike Hubble was chosen as Most Valuable Player. Atom Bs play It was well worth the admis- sion to watch the Pineridge Sports Atoms play the Stouff- ville Clippers last Thursday night. : The Clippers opened the scor- ing at the 4:40 mark of the first period. The boys took this in stride as we have developed a never say die attitude that can be used at will. It applied that night because we saw Michael Wiseman tie the game with a pass from Matt Skerratt and Ja- son Howarth. The defensive team skated solidly as they guarded their end. Matt McGarry eased the ten- sion as he scored the winning goal with co-operation from both Mike Milligan and John Burnett. Woodville welcomed us to their annual tournament on Saturday. We were face to face with a strong team from Orono. The Orono coach commented that his team had been in a slump, but Saturday had them playing their best game of the year. Our boys played some good hockey both offensively and defensively. Scoring for Pineridge Sports were Gerard Timmers with a goal and an assist, and Trevor Weisflock, one goal. We played our second game against Woodville. The boys summoned their never say die attitude and we witnessed a good hockey game. Both Ryan Woods and Shawn Martin were Junior C style exceptional. Mike Dalby and Tyler Houthuys were strong de- fensively. Scott Duncan, Jason Howarth, and John Burnett were some of the reasons we had a strong game. Regulation time ended with both teams sitting with a goal a piece. The Pineridge mark came from some fine hockey plays made by Mike Wiseman from Mike LeFort and Matt Sker- ratt. It was looking good in over- time, but Woodville ended our day after a frenzy at our net put them ahead. Then We grabbed some last minute ice time on Sunday night and an exhibition game fell into place against our friends from Ux- bridge. Perhaps it was because we were playing in the regular Junior "C" time slot that we saw some Junior "C" style hockey being played. Both aggressive and quick it was progressive hockey all night. Uxbridge scored first with Pineridge tying it up with a nice solo effort by Mike LeFort. Ryan Haslam got our second goal with passes from Mike Le- Fort and Mike Wiseman. Uxbridge showed us that they could play hockey too, with a goal in the third period. The game ended in a tie. Our boys have shown their abilities and the team is begin- ning to gel. We had a pretty good week!
