Former employee visits newspaper after 72 yrs. J. Peter Hvidsten Port Perry Star When Dugald Nasmith was a growing up in Port Perry, he had a yearning to work for a newspaper. So at the young age of 14, he applied for a job with Samuel Farmer, owner of the Port Perry Star. That was in 1919, and after working for the Port Perry. Star for about one year, he headed out for bigger and better things in both Toronto and Montreal. In town last week to spend Christmas with his grand- daughter, Andrea Malyon, Mr. Nasmith, who is now 88-years- old, said he would like to visit the Port Perry Star. During his tour of the build- ing, with his daughter Anne and her husband John Gilmour, he reminisced about his brief stint at the Port Perry Star. Meeting this bright-eyed, astute gentleman was a treat, as he fondly spoke of both Sam Farmer and employee George HURRY IN NOW! GET $60-80 IN EXTRA FEATURES... GET MORE FOR LESS! LV. gyi ie NEW! "They used to crawl through holes in the wall and we cha them out, packing the holes' with broken glass," he sal with a laugh. Born in Toronto, he moved: to Port Perry with his father; Henry Clark Nasmith, whéh he was six-years-old. Their home was located across Queen St. from R. H. Cornish Public School.
