Juniors lose two games to tough ringette teams The Port Perry I.G.A. Juniors travelled to Barrie Saturday for the first of a pair of weekend playoff games. The game would be a difficult one as Barrie fin- ished just ahead of Port in the league standings. After some girls arrived late, there was a rush to get ready. This rush was unnecessary as one of the referees had not ar- rived and the game was played in full. (No time limit in Barrie!) In what proved to be a difficult day, the girls never seemed to get on track after the delay as the ring bounced the wrong way all game. It was one of those games when the ring looked like a lifesaver for one team and a hool-a-hoop for the other. Barrie turned this advantage into a 5-2 victory. Scoring both Port goals was Shona Moase with Dana Hooker collecting two assists and Cara Vander Slagt and Lisa Bonser with one assist each. On Sunday, Mississauga vis- ited Port for the second contest of the weekend. Fresh from a Saturday loss to previously win- less Oshawa, Mississauga was also looking to reverse their re- sults. The visitors opened the scor- ing but Port quickly evened the score when Dana set up Shona for the only scoring of the first period. Cara gave the home team the lead early in the second period on a pass from Shona. The lead was short-lived as Mississauga tied the game just over two min- utes later. The game went end- to-end with both teams having good scoring chances. Katie Se- nyk was again outstanding in the Port net. [ate in the game Mississauga found a kink in the defense and took the lead. Having to press, Port got caught up ice and the results was a 4-2 lead. With an empty net goal the final was an- other 5-2 defeat for the 1.G.A. Juniors. Port's next opponent will be Markham who were handling Oshawa 6-1 early in the second periodin Oshawa Sunday.
