According to Mayor Howard Hall, approximately 15 per cent of the homeowners in the town- ship have not properly dis- played a blue reflective 9-1-1 ad- dress marker on their property. These numbers indicate to the emergency crews the loca- tion of a household according to the regional 9-1-1 system. "It's a matter of life and death," Mayey Hall said, noting that when properly displayed will provide quick and easy ac- cess to a location in the event of an emergency. "It's very important in the ru- ral areas that these numbers are displayed," he said. Scugog, along with the rest of the Region of Durham, became linked with the 9-1-1 emergency service in May, 1991. At that time the residents outside of Port Perry were required to pick up these numbers at the Clerk's Office. The fee was $15. But almost three years have passed and 15 per cent of these signs are still unclaimed. "I hope that people will accept the fact that we did this in con- junction with 9-1-1 for the health and safety of our people," Mayor Hall said. The numbers are availab from the Clerk's Office in Port Perry. A A A Approximately 15 per cent of the residents in Scugog have yet to pick up their 9-1-1 emergency number signs. These signs can be purchased from the Clerk's Office in Port Perry. Pic- tured are Kim Coates, Wendy Bourgeois and Diane Knutson, from the Clerk's Office.
