Paul Christie takes over reins as Port Perry Fair Board president By J. Peter Hvidsten Port Perry Star One of the greatest strengths of the Port Perry Agriculture Society is the families and individuals who work together so hard to make the fair a success. This comment was made last Saturday evening by president Bill Cohoon during the annual meeting of the local fair board. Speaking to a gathering of about 50 members, Dr. Cohoon said "for pretty average folks, we have achieved great things at the fair. It takes considerable effort and dedication to achieve what we have over the years." But the out-going president warned the directors they must expand to encompass and encourage new members and new ideas if they are to continue to succeed. During the business session, Dr. Cohoon made a special presentation to Neil Hunter for close to 35 years of service to the Agriculture Society. "Neil's been supportive and worked hard and long for the fair board," the president said while presenting him an Agriculture Service Diploma. Dr. Cohoon also praised the board's secretary/treasurer for her outstanding efforts on behalf of the fair board. Mayor Howard Hall spoke briefly, saying it was great to have so many hard working volunteers on the fair board, and wished them continued success. During the evening a number of amendments were made to the Society's constitution, one which allows the number of directors on the board to range from between 28 and 40 members. This was passed just in time for 40 people to be elected to the 1994 board of directors. During the election of officers, conducted by Barb Weiss of the Ministry of Agriculture, Paul Christie was elected as pres: ident, Frank Fielding, 1st vice pres., Carla Puckrin, 2nd vice Port Perry Agriculture Society honored Neil Hunter, a long-time member and supporter of the local fair board.
