Knights of Columbus crown the free throw champions Nine boys and girls from Port Perry and the surrounding area were named as local champions on Thursday in the 1994 Knights of Columbus Interna- tional Free Throw champion- ship. The event held at Immacu- late Conception School was sponsored by Knights council © 8951. The winners from Thursdays competition compete in the District Champi- onship which will be held in Pickering on Feb. 24 at St. Francis de Sales School. Winners of the council cham- pionship are as follows: 10 year old girls - Emma Marshall - S.A. Cawker; 10 year old boys - Zack - Prince Albert; Taryn Izatt It hardly seems possible to believe that with all the cold weather and the snow on the ground that anyone could even - consider thinking about playing ball. But yes, the executive of Cartwright Minor Ball have been working like busy little beavers preparing for another ball season. So, now is the time to get on down and register for another season of fun and ex- citement. Registration dates for Satur- day, Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 be- tween 8 a.m. and noon have been confirmed for the Cart- wright Minor Ball program. The registration will be con- ducted at the Blackstock Arena on both mornings. The minor ball program is open to boys and girls between the ages of five and 18. Last year's expansion into hardball was such a success that it will be offered again this year. Through our affiliation with the Scugog Baseball Associa- tion, the Cartwright teams will have the chance to play other teams from the Port Perry area. Teams will hold practices and play half their games in Cart- wright, with away games in Port Perry. Baseball 1s cpen to both boys and girls. The softball program will continue to be of- fered as in the past, with both boys and girls playing all their games in Cartwright. Thirteen year old win- ners were Carrie Ollerton of S.A. Cawker and Mark Sauter also of S.A. Cawker. In the 14 year old boys divi- sion - Cory Wiatrziyk of S.A. Cawker won. There were no competitors in the 14 year old girls category. International champions are determined based on scores from the Provincial and State competitions. Last year more than 212,000 boys and girls participated in 3,099 competitions.
