"Peter was a wonderful per- son, a great colleague, who was well respected and well liked," vice-principal Sharon Steele said. "He was well liked by all. The community is taking it hard." This is the second time in less than a week that an accident has taken the lives of Durham residents. On February 5, two Caesarea residents were killed in an acci- dent on Regional Road 57. "It hasn't been a good week for Scugog residents. The unfortu- nate deaths in two separate ac- cidents have claimed the lives of four people," said Mayor Ho- ward Hall. "These jobs will help give On- tario'scommunities the services and stability needed to attract new industry and to plan for managed growth." Regional Councillor Yvonne Christie, who also serves as Durham's Works Committee vice-chairman, said the two - Scugog communities were cho- sen due to their limited growth and their high water consump- tion. o According to Councillor Christie, Prince Albert current- ly has 10 per cent of the serviced population in Scugog, but con- sumes 12 per cent of the yearly water supply. The Region of Durham identi- fied this problem and decided to designate the two communities as the test sites. "Water consumption has been pushed by the region," she said. A water reading will be taken a number of times over a two- year period to track the water consumption level. The data will then be used to set building standards in the future. "If the results are as good as we hope they'll be, they (the pro- vincial government) will push for better regulations in home building," she said. Mayor Howard Hall said a number of future residential de- velopments 'in the area may take part in the water- consumption program, equip- ping the units with efficient hardware. Canterbury Common, a resi- dential development in north Port Perry slated for ground- breaking in the spring, has al- ready agreed to participate in the program, he said. Lasy to gel to...
