Victor and Ruby "Area resident celebrates 80th birthday 'Nestleton by \'(F-1e][:) (of:\"'] (:]§ Bronze Medal Winner Another busy, but rewarding weekend for Avril Walker of Scugog Point, as she competed in the Eastern Pineridge Inter- club Skating Competition held at the Civic Auditorium in Oshawa. Avril was competing in the Junior Bronze Ladies event, along with 15 other young la- dies. The competition began early Saturday morning with the girls being judged on their figures, laterin the day the girls skated their freeskate program. Avril who had a good skate and had done well in her figures placed third overall and re- ceived the bronze medal. Many friends, along with her grand- parents Jean and Bert Hill of Whitby were on hand to con- gratulate Avril om a job well done! Blue Ray Chapter Hosts Luncheon A very tempting luncheon was held by Blue Ray Chapter, OES, this past Friday, Feb. 18, with a good attendance. The food with great variety, was served in abundance to those present. A very luncheon. Chapter members are a hard working group of peo- ple - watch for the next lunch- eon date in March! Sir William Osler - a noted Canadian doctor comments about having a way of life that is fuli and joyous! Yesterday is but a dream and tomorrow only a vision. But to- day, well lived makes every yes- terday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. We could not ask for more than that! What is a real person? The light you leave burning. And may God Bless you all! Nestleton United Church A fine service - 1stin Lent - at Nestleton United Church with a good attendance. Rev. David Shearman conducted the ser- vice. He first enchanted the Sunday School children during his story about "rainbows" - then giving the congregation many splendid thoughts re - Lent - tying same in neatly with scripture passages from Gene- sis 9: 8-17 and Samuel 25: 1-10. Arthur and David Weir gath- ered the offering and after a closing hymn the service ended with Benediction and Three Fold Amen. Birthday Celebration An 80th birthday celebration was held for Ralph Sadler at the home of Richard and Janice MacKenzie after the church ser- vice. A fine attendance of rela- tives and many old friends in- satisfying | Parsons. So very good to see the Parsonsonce again. A lovely birthday cake and many delicious sandwiches and sweets were served. Our very best wishes to Ralph Sadler as he commences a new year - a new plateau in his interesting life. Nestleton Presbyterian Church With a good attendance on a spring like morning, the regu- lar service in Nestleton Presby- terian Church was in charge of Rev. Wm. Fairley at 11 a.m. The =~ a hymns were played by Joyce Taylor, and Sunday School was taught by Peggy Jones. Psalm 25 was read respon- sively and Genesis 9, and Luke 4, were the scripture readings. Rev. Fairley spoke on "Hope" - the secret of life. In this time of striving for world peace, we need to keep our thoughts and lives patterned on the many promises in God's word - and look for the fulfilment of the rainbow. Next Sunday, Feb. 27 regular service at 11 a.m. followed by "soup and sandwich lunch" and Annual Church Meeting. KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRY STAR Students at S.A. Cawker Public School held their own mini Winter Olympics on Feb. 17. After an opening ceremony, complete with flags and national anthems, the athletes took part in the first event, a combination toboggan-snowshoe race. Riding changes From page 1 document together. A meeting is scheduled with the Finance Committee on Feb- ruary 28 and in which many of the groups and organizations are expected to come forward with theirbudget proposals. Councillor Christie then ex- pects to be able to formulate the budget. CWL meeting by Anne Davies Communications Convenor On Thursday, Feb. 3 Immac- Catholic Women's League held their an- ulate Conception nual Public Speaking Contest. Students from Conception Separate School Grades 7 and 8 proved to be very able and competent con- testants. Competitors were, in alpha- betical order, Christine Cam- L.rs, Lisa Catchpole, Sheri Compeau, Sarah MacKenzie, Jennifer Pilkington, Sarah Robb and Julie Turnbull. All speeches were well done and covered quite a scope of topics dealing with problems teens face today. Congratulations go out to our 1st place winner Jennifer Pilk- ington who gave quite an active account of her speech called 'Ar- guments.' Second place runner- up was Sarah Robb for her clear and well researched topic on Sam McLaughlin. Just a reminder to all that the United Church will be hosting World of Prayer on Friday, March 4, 1994 at 1:30 p.m. - hope to see many ladies attend this worthwhile celebration.
