Daryl Bourgeois gave the Eagles life, deflecting Joe Broadworth's point shot on a Port power play. Ian Shrigley also assisted on the goal. Milton capitalized on some needless Eagle penalties to put the game away with three more goals in the second period, then another in the third. Scott Heasman capped a strong game with a blast off" a solo rush late in the period to make the score 7-2, but that was all the Eagles could muster against a strong, disciplined Milton squad. MoJacks From Paae 27 make it 5-3 after two periods. Dennis pulled the MoJacks to within one goal at 3:16 of the third period, scoring on a high blast from the point. The shot beat Fleming cleanly on the glove side. Chad Desjardin's second of the series past a screened Shawn Larocque gave the Mer- chants a 6-4 lead but at 9:15, with Port Perry again on a pow- er play, Todd one-timed a cross- ice pass from Dennis behind Fleming to make it 6-5. Robertson took a costly pen- alty for Little Britain with just under two minutes left in regu- lation, and with Larocque on the bench in favor of the extra attacker, Port Perry went to work with a six-on-four man- advantage. Todd picked up his third goal of the night with only 18 sec- onds left when he moved into the slot and ripped a slapshot that hit the crossbar and dropped in behind Fleming to force overtime. Once again, it was Todd in overtime, this time his wrist shot beating Fleming high to the blocker side, completing the Port Perry comeback and a four-goal, six-point mght for Todd. Juveniles advance From 'Page 25 Desaultels tipped past Shawn Wilson. The next goal was a beautiful give-and-go between Card and Ennis, with Card scoring, and Desaultels picking up the other assist. Port was now leading 4- 1. Then the rough stuff began. After Pegg ran Willetts (Port's goalie), Fitzy stepped in and gave Matt a hand. Meanwhile, Shawn Wilson (Uxbridge's goal- ie) called Port's bench on. He got a little too close and Ridg- way cuffed him up alongside of the head. At the same time, the goalie was stripped of his stick - the one he was using to try to spear Ryan. After the second period break, Uxbridge found themselves in a four-en-four sit- uation. They were able to press and send a shot towards the goal, which was redirected in, by James. Port answered back by keep- ing Uxbridge off the scoreboard for the rest of the game. Even after a two-handed slash by Pegg, Darrell Vanderligt cruised in on a breakaway and buried it for Port's fifth. Steve Desaultels finished Uxbridge off with an empty-netter. The assists on the last two goals went to Fitzgerald, Puckrin, and McEnaney. The game end- ed 6-2, and now Port was only one win-away to advance to the next series. A couple of days later Port was poised to end Uxbridge's season, in front of the home crowd. Willetts was called upon to play between the pipes once again, for Port. The game start- ed, as usual, with lots of check- ing and renewed energy. McAr- thur helped open the scoring for Port with a slapshot off of Ellis, while on the power play. Min- utes later, Uxbridge had the chance to even things up while on their own power play, but Willetts stoned them with an awesome glove save. The Key- The Shepstone Haulage Pe- tites came back empty-handed from the Kingston Ringette Tournament, losing all three weekend games by a two goal deficit. Despite being outscored in those games against some pretty tough opposition, the girls played well and everyone had a great time, both on and off the ice. Nepean outplayed our Rockettes on Friday by a 6-4 score. The girls seemed to have the first period jitters and didn't start playing their style till the second period and made the game more exciting and a lot closer. The big shooter for the game and all weekend for the Petites was Stacey. The score- sheet stats read as follows: Sta- cey from Katherine, Stacey from Alaina and Sarah, Stacey from Katherine and Shannon, and Stacey from Shannon. Our second game on Satur- day was a heartbreaking 5-3 loss to Gloucester. With five minutes remaining in the game and a 3-1 lead, the girls let up and let Gloucester back in the game as they scored three goals in 55 seconds to take a sure win away (it ain't over till it's over). Scoring for Port went like this: Stacey from Nicole, Alaina from Stacey and Stacey from Rhea. Our Sunday game against Al- monte was another good effort by the team and it looked like the game was going to end up a scoreless tie but Almonte scored Bar squad scored again with a bullet from Heasman. Tindall thought he had caught it but it must have gone through the glove. Vanderligt and McEna- ney picked up the other assists. With some strong forechecking and some hard hitting, Ux- bridge answered back. On the ensuing power play, Willetts managed to stop the first shot, but Johnston moved in and de- posited the rebound under the crossbar. Just before the end of the sec- ond, McArthur and Ridgway sent an up-ice pass with only three or four seconds remain- ing. Vanderligt caught the pass and moved in over the blue line, decided to challenge the goalie, rather than shoot, and scored a buzzer-beater. What a way to kill an opponent's hopes of mak- ing a comeback. However, even though Port went ahead 4-1 in the third with a goal by Moe (Lindsay Parry), Uxbridge did not give up. In a race for the puck, Willetts tried to poke- check the puck ahead, but the Uxbridge player beat him at his own game, and tipped one in for an easy goal. A minute later, Uxbridge brought the score to within one with a two-man breakaway, after a breakdown by Port's defence. From then on, Port played defensively smart to keep the score 4-3 in their favor, to win and elimi- nate Uxbridge from the playoffs. Matt Willetts and his defensive core of: Fitzgerald, Heasman, McArthur, Puckrin, and Vander Slagt had a strong game. Only three days later, on Sunday, Port started the next round of playoffs - against Trenton (down there). Hope to see the fan support con- tinue! Haulers' action with 1:43 left and added an empty net goal for a 2-0 win. De- spite the three losses, the girls' play is steadily improving with a solid effort from Heather, Kimberley, Leanne D., Leanne L., Sheena and great goaltend- ing from Jill, who stopped a lot of neophrene and kept us in the games. This past Sunday, the team travelled to Ajax for an after- noon game and finally found Ajax's number as they skated away with a 2-0 win. In the pre- vious two games against Ajax, the Rockettes lost by only a goal, but a strong team effort with everyone skating hard and playing aggressively and our rocksteady goalie produced a well-deserved and long- awaited victory. Jill was out- standing in the net and had to make several super saves to preserve the shutout and win. Our speedy No. 4, Stacey, was the sharpshooter for the game, scoring the first goal, assisted by Nicole, and notching the in- surance marker with Shannon assisting. The defence played tough all game and kept the Ajax for- wards from getting in close and protected Jill while our offense put pressure on the Ajax de- fence and had several good scor- ing opportunities.
