Helen and Stuart Dorrell re- turned home from a short holi- day in Florida where they visit- ed Stuart's brothers Dalton and Kathleen Dorrell and Roger and Ethel Dorrell. Sorry to to report that Les Argue, longtime resident of this area passed away on the week- end in Bowmanville Hospital. The funeral will be held at Mackie's Funeral Parlor in Lindsay on Wednesday morn- ing. Jean Adams, Marion Larmer, Eileen McLaughlin, Mary Shepherd and Ruby Van Camp represented Blackstock U.C.W. at the Presbyterial U.C.W. meeting last Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the St. Paul's United Church, Bowmanville during the after- noon and evening. It was a special service at the United Church on Sunday morning when members of all branches of Guide and Scout Movements and their leaders attended. Rev. David Shear- man presented Religion in Life Badges to Robert Larmer, Dar- rell Goulding, Jeremy Morri- son, Warren Keeler, Adam Stapely and Tim Martyn. Rev. D. Shearman delivered a thought provoking family oriented sermon. Doubtless they would have liked much more snow but there was enough to have a successful day. Many grandparents have been busy babysitting the past week when a group of young parents enjoyed a week at St. Martins Island in the Caribbe- an. Musical Notes From Cartwright High School The C.H.S Stage Band per- formed at Brock High School on Tuesday, Feb. 22. This was the first public performance for this group and they performed ex- tremely well. There are several rookies in the band this year but they came through for us, de- spite the stage jitters. The Senior Concert Band par- ticipated in the Sunderland Mu- sic Festival Thursday, Feb. 24, and placed second among a class of the four senior bands competing from Uxbridge S.S., P.P.H.S., Brock H.S. and C.H.S. The senior band played magnif- icently and is to be commended forits excellent performance. On Saturday, Feb. 27, the Junior Concert Band will be performing at the Southern On- tario Band Festival in Scarbo- rcugh. Thisis the qualifying fes- tival for MusicFest Canada, the national music festival held every year in mid May. The jun- iors have been working very dil- rently towards this festival. his group doesn't get a rest be- cause on Tuesday, March 1, they travel to Pickering to at- tend the Pickering Rotary Mu- sic Festival. The Senior Band is beginning their annual fundraising drive to assist with the expenses for the major excursion, this year to Philadelphia to participate in the International Music Festi- val. We will be holding a dance at the Blackstock Rec. Centre . on Friday, April 22 featuring the new country band "The Dear Johns," with Blackstock's own Shawn Crockard on lead vocals. Tickets will be.on sale from the school or through any band member beginning the second week in March. The sec- ond major fundraising effortis a raffle featuring two prizes: two Toronto Maple Leaf tickets for a game next year, or a flight over Scugog and breakfast with Ted Griffen of Port Perry fame, in his private plane. The winner of the draw will get his/her choice of the prizes while the second name drawn will receive that prize which was not first picked. The draw will take place on April 22 at the dance. Band members will have these tickets by the second week in March.
