16 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 1,1994 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Supper Club a real treat Prime Time Fashion Show to be April 6 by Margaret Cavill Celebrating birthdays in Feb- ruary here at the nursing home are: Bill Moroz (1), Joan Tuck (9), Lorne Manning (10), Helen Craning (23), Pat Richardson (24), Karl Hoestermann (26) and Margaret Charland (26). Happy birthday to all. Activities in February have been mainly geared to Valen- tine's Day. Decorating, crafts, love bingo, heart hunt, a funny Valentines discussion were some of the events held leading up to a Valentine's party on the 11th. At the party the newly formed Resident's Choir enter- tained and also many thanks to Jack Markell who once again got everyone joining in with his songs. One activity that many par- ticipated in was sponge paint- ing one of the walls in the activi- ty room. There were times when the floor had more paint on it than did the wallsbutin the end everyone agreed a fine job had been done and the activity room looked somewhat brighter. Supper Club this month was a real treat. It had been decided that a fondue supper would be a lot of fun and so on the after- noon of the 17th residents came to help prepare the food. Vege- tables were cut up, meat was prepared and cheese fondue - CLASSES: made. The tables were set with fondue pots and all the trim- mings. There were quite a few who had never participated in a fondue and so were downstairs long before dinner was to be served to see just what it was all about. Along with the fondue, cesta and sausage rolls were seMved. Dessert time was a big hit with everyone, chocolate dipped strawberrys, grapes, marshmallows, cherrys, and lady fingers were on the menu along with the hitof'the evening ice-cream and peach flambe. Another meal that was cer- tainly a big hit was a special breakfast held on the 16th. It is always nice to have a meal that is a little different from your every day ones. Residents en- Joyed eggs done to their liking, French toast, bacon and sausag- es along with other special treats. Manicures, baking, dents Council Meeting, wood- working, ceramics, plaster cast- ing and a men's outing to the bowling alley and lunch were other events that kept everyone busy. Here at the Port Perry Nurs- ing Home we are proud to be part of this campaign. Many of the events, which involve resi- dents and their families, have become annual traditions in our community. In the past we have raised money by holding bowl- a-thons, walk-a-thons and raf- fles, one year we even kissed a pig. The annual fundraising campaign is held during Nurs- ing Home Week in June and plans are already underway here to once again participate. Many of the residents living in nursing homes suffer from Alzheimer Disease. We see the devastating nature of the ill- ness on a daily basis and realize the necessity and urgency of re- search.
