Lindsay stormed back, scor- ing early in the second. Thomas Lee had made several good saves before being beaten. Steve ~~ MacLennan Pearce Auctions second goal on a nice rush and then storming the net assisting on the play were Jeff and Jamie. Lindsay who never say die came back to equalize the score - minutes later. Going into the third period tied 2-2, the Auctioneers poured on the pressure with Spencer Churchill having two good scor- ing chances. The defence held the puck in on numerous occa- scored sions with Geoffrey Simpson and Dylan Harper having strong games pinching in to keep the oressure on. Justin Moffatt had a strong game with scveral chances only to be foiled by the strong Lindsay goalie. Mark Duncan had a strong two way game giving no room to his opponents along the boards. Finally about mid way through the third period Jamie found the twine as he has so of- ten this season late in a game to secure the win for .Port Perry getting a well deserved assist on the play was Jeff Tarbotton. Port Perry take a one game lead in the four point play off round. Saturday afternoon Pearce Auction travelled around the lake to Lindsay for game two. Lindsay opened the scoring at just over the one minute mark of the first period. Not to be dis- couraged Pory Perry peppered the Lindsay net with shots only to be turned back time and again. Port Perry finally bulged the twine with Trevor Lance scoring with one second on the clock to end the first getting as- sists were Justin Moffatt and Jamieson Smith. The second period was score- less with both teams having several chances. : Coming close for Port was Ke- vin Robins and Michael Thomp- son. Lindsay scored two third pe- riod goals to take a 3-1 lead. This was a lead Port Perry could not make up so the series is tied at one game a piece. Good luck guys let's beat them on our own pond. Eaglettes defeat Whithy The XL Gas Bar Eaglettes, Novice C Ringette team, were well matched against their op- ponents on this Sunday past. Our squad travelled to Brookhn and played against the Brook- lin/Whitby team in their home arena. This game proved to be almost as exciting as the Cana- da/Sweden gold medal game. Port opened the scoring in the middle of the first period with Alaina Burger scoring on a pass from Ceilidh Baxter. Alaina scored again late in the first, giving Port a two-goal lead. Brooklin/Whitby came back with a goal early in the second and kept the pressure on Port throughout the period. The game was cond to end action with very few whistles, making it very difficult to keep fresh skaters on the ice. The teams were fairly even throughout the game with the 2-1 win going to Port solely on the basis of the exceptional goaltending provid- ed by Heather Imne. In a game like this, all of the players must be giving 100 per cent to end up winning the game. [ think that evervone was giving 110 per cent for this game, including: Jackie Pash- ley, Ashley Aldridge, Janna Os- tafichuk, Holly Allison, Kristen Waller, Sarah Aldridge, Whit- ney Reid and last, but not least, Chnstine Cotie. SCOTT ANDERSON / PORT PERRY STAR Spring is just around the corner when the local ball clubs be- gin registration, and this was the case on Saturday as Cart- wright Minor Ball and Scugog Baseball Association held its registration. Gary Beechey, registrar for Cartwright Minor Ball, is joined by daughters Nicole and Natalie. Those interested in registering can call Mr. Beechey at 986-0035. Tweens see plenty of action Friday, Feb. 18, the Port Perry Pineridge Tweens trav- elled to Lindsay for the first game of the season between these two clubs. Port showed their stuff, scoring six in the first and two in the second. Sharpshooters in this game were Cathy Cooper, Jennifer Imrie and Mary Justynski, one goal each, Jenn Donnelly two, and Leanne Holt three. Assists went to Mary Justynski, Jenn Donnelly, Diana Burnett, Ami- lie Leveille and Jackie Smith, one each. Lisa Lefort recorded two assists. Port took this game 8-2. Sunday, Feb. 20, Port took on arch rival Ajax. Our girls had not lost to this team all season until this game. Port didn't seem to have it, losing 6-1. To be fair, Ajax played better ringette and were out to avenge their loss to Port in the Kingston tourney. Port's "game of the week" pit- ted our club against a tough, chipy team from Richmond Hill. The opposition squad were out to intimidate our girls right from the start. It didn't work, the Tweens kept their cool and let Richmond Hill take penalty after penalty. All three of Port's goals were scored on the power play. Leanne Holt opened the scoring at 9:38 of the first, slip- ping the ring by the Richmond Hill netminder; Lisa Lefort making this tally possible with a lovely pass. Richmond Hill scored a minute later to tie the game. Jackie Smith rounded out the first period scoring on a determined effort, deking the defence and firing the ring home. Perfect passes by Leanne Holt and Mary Justynski set Jackie up. The play went back and forth "until 9:16 of the second when the opposition scored to knot the game 2-2. Thirteen seconds later, Jenn Imrie made a great pass to a charging Cathy Coop- er who used her patented wrist shot to put Port ahead. Great netminding by Jenn Hammond combined with super defence and back checking held Richmond Hill off the score board until the last minute of the game when they finally put one in to tie the game 3-3. A spunky effort by Jenn Donnelly came close to pulling this one out for Port in the dying sec- onds when her trademark back- hand just missed going in. Good game, girls.
