The Alliston boys had beaten Brad- ford three games straight in the quarter-finals. Apparently, they had a strong regular sea- son as well, having a league record of 20 wins, one loss and one tie! The score at the end of one pe- riod was 1-1 but Alliston con- trolled the play. Jason Whit- worth scored on an assist by Adam Moynes near the end of the period to even the score. He fought off a check on a partial breakaway and then deked the goalie successfully. Earlier, Chris Skerratt and Dean Van Camp were foiled on scoring ef- forts coming down the left wing. Matt Cracknell made a nice poke check to break up an Allis- ton rush. The "wheels fell off" in the second period though, at the start it looked as if we might continue our momentum as Adam Moynes made a nice for- ward pass to Steven Wygerde and defenceman Tim Jones worked hard and successfully evaded two forecheckers to make a good breakout pass. At 11:59, however, an avalanche started when an Alliston for- ward was overlooked in front of the net and popped the 2-1 go- ahead goal. Just 15 seconds lat- er, Alliston scored on a three on one break. Then they went on a Broomball playoffs underway Swamp, Monsma win opening games The playoffs finally got start- ed this past weekend with sec- ond place Woody's hosting third place finishers B&R Swampers. B&R struck at the midway point of the opening period when Brian Robinson netted one from Brian Pomeroy and Mike Mitchell. After this, both squads had their chances with B&R holding a slight advantage with the better scoring opportu- nities but this one held up at the 1-0 total for the Swampers. Keith Tremblay earned the shutout between the B&R pipes. The second game had league leaders Monsma Electric play host to the Blackstock Brewers and come away with a 3-2 victo- ry in a squeaker also. Monsma pulled out in front late in the first on a goal by Ron Attwood set up by Kevin Ibbitson. With 57 seconds left in the period, Blackstock pulled even when Tom Wotten and Gord Bryans set up Ron Wagg. Not to be out- done, and with 19 seconds on the clock, Monsma again went out in front when Ibbitson pot- ted one of his own from Wayne Tate and Jim Mason. Again, Blackstock pulled even with Wagg assisting on Ron Short's marker this time. Monsma's 'then got the eventual winner midway through the frame with Murray Down scoring from Ib- bitson. Next week's games will be re- versed, with Blackstock and Monsma meeting first at 4:30 to be followed by Woody's and B&R. Congratulations to Woody's who won Silver at the Regional Playdowns two weeks ago. by Alliston Express pumped up by their fan sup- port. Another two-on-one assault of our net resulted in the sixth goal. Chris Monsma then made the big save on a 2-0 breaka- way. End of two periods, 6-1 for our hosts..how inhospitable! Just 17 seconds into the third period, Billy Carr scored unas- sisted on a goal mouth scramble to raise our hopes just a little. He then made a good pass across the slot to Dean Van Camp who was too well checked to tip it in. Again Matt Crack- nell made a nice poke check to temporarily stop an Alliston at- tack. Briefly thereafter an Al- liston forward outmuscled our player and ripped a quick wrist shot to the far side and re- established their dominance of the period. A couple of more sit- uations arose where our de- fence was outnumbéred around our net and Alliston made few mistakes as they ran up the score to a final 10-2 victory. Sometimes you've got to take your lumps! This was one of those nights! Team captain Sean Jeffrey and his assistant captains will undoubtedly help coax our lads to pull up their socks and give Alliston a little tougher competition for game two on our home ice. We may not beat them but for sure our boys will give Chris a little more protection next time out. Printers, Re/Max win in playoff action Re/Max 5 - Haugens 3 Re/Max came up the winner by two goals in the first game of the playoffs. Re/Max goals were scored by Clayton Gilmore with a pair, Wesley Langmaid with one and Stormy Wootton with a pair, one of which was scored in an empty net. Stuart Cochrane, Brady Gray, Mike Whalen and Tyler Lee were credited with assists. Devon Ferguson netted two power play and Port goalie" Boals and one. assist for Hau- Chris Monsma came up big on four point blank shots in a row! Way to go, Chris! More rubber came his way again but another unchecked player scored to go 4- 1. A turnover at our blue hine re- sulted in a two-on-one situation and the sharpshooting Allston team went up 5-1. There was a flash of our usual play when David Justynski made a good shot from the point and also broke up a rush with a nifty poke check. Scott Brown- son and Chris Skerratt worked a good "mve and go" behind the Alliston net only to be rejected by the Allston goalie. Grant Hooker and Joel Thomson on defence, and forward Matt Mag- Master were all trying to chec the speedy, smooth passing Al- liston players who were gens, Jordan Froats got the oth- er Haugen goal. Assists went to Reid Harris and Shane Jeffrey. - The netminder for Re/Max was Peter Konstantinopoulos and for Haugen's Scott Honey. Port Perry Printing 2 Van Camp 0 Colin Holditch scored the first goal at 4:27 of the first peri- od unassisted and at 1:22 of the third Tyler Weisflogk scored the second. Mark Lott earned the shutout for the Printers. Tyler Webb was superb in net for Van Camp stopping many of the Printer's attempts. Floor hockey action Six-Eight Year Olds On Monday, Feb. 28 at R.H. Cornish gym the Canadians outscored the Leafs 2-1 in the third period to record a 6-5 win.
