The team finished first in league play and went undefeated during the LOSSA Championships, defeating Courtice in the final game to take the Gold Medal. They also won a Gold Medal in the Port Perry Invitational. LOSSA Season began in early Decem- ber, with a new format where AAA schools and AA schools competed against each other. After regular league games Port was placed third of eight teams - top spot going to Cour- tice H.S. and second to Brock. Feb. 23 - this led to a two pool round-robin playoff format. Port placed first in their pool af- ter a tie breaker game against Brock. An easy semi-final game against Central Colleg. of Oshawa (Brock managed to boat the previously undefeated Courtice to knock them out of further competition) led to the LOSSA gold medal round. Port defeated Brock in two straight returning the LOSSA trophy and gold to Port Perry for the second yearin a row. March 2 - DYSSA - to Joan of Arc Catholic School in York Re- gion to determine the DYSSA champs. During warm-up Lisa Kim our veteran setter went over on her ankle, causing some major concers. However, after icing and taping, came back to play well. First game against Joan of Arc - everyone played, slow to get moving but managed 15-5, 15-5 victories. Strong serving by Kiley Kearns and Lindsay Kearns, complimented by text- book hitting by Renee Parish, Julie Ball, Marci Zuly and Mi- chelle Moynham confirmed the win. After a two hour leisurely lunch, Port was slow to start in the final game against the strong Brock team. Brock served 10 straight points before Port managed to win a point. Losing this first game of three 15-5 startled the girls enough to launch a strong offensive, win- ning 15-7. Final game lasted a record 26 minutes with the lead changing hands many times. Port pulled out all the stops and good team work, knee burning digs, high clear sets, well placed tips won the gold medal for this super group of girls. Mixed slo-pitch league Is seeking players By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Singles, couples and groups of friends 20 years of age and older are invited to spend Sunday af- ternoons this summer playing baseballin a fun atmosphere. The league, which is being or- ganized by Kim Hughes of Prince Albert, will be a mixed recreational 'slo-pitch league open to anyone looking to play baseball. With one ladies lob ball league in Port Perry, consisting of players 25 and older, and a mens league restricted to those 30 years of age and older, there are a number of individuals who want to play ball but are either not old enough or the leagues 'have no positions open. The mixed league will consist of 12 players per team but the number of teams is undecided depending on the interest shown from residents of the area. Couples or groups of friends who wish to join together will be placed on the same team. Sin- gles are also encouraged to join and will be placed accordingly. The league will hold games at the diamonds at the new Scugog Centre, behind Scugog Arena. Games will be held on Sunday afternoons beginning at approx- Tell your friends you've "gone fishir™ ¢ ; a Roland Martin's Florida resort. The cost for joining the league will be minimal, likely in the neighborhood of $20, Miss Hughes said; enough to cover di- amond cost and sweaters for each team. Aside from the league games teams can expect to take part in two tournaments during the year. Miss Hughes, who is fairly new to Scugog Township, said she thought of the idea for the league after hearing a lot of dis- cussion from people who want- ed to play ball but there was no league in Port Perry they could join. Aside from a fun and some- what competitive ball game, she hopes it is also a way for people to socialize with others of the same age groups in a fan envi- ronment. A meeting will be held March 14 at Miss Hughes' house, locat- ed at 14261 Old Simcoe Road in Prince Albert, at 7:30 p.m. to de- termine interest and to begin or- ganizing teams. Anyone wishing to playin the mixed league should attend the meeting, or call Miss Hughes at 985-8382 to reserve a spot(s) on ateam. ge to spend a a To enter, just complet an ant for at Wily & Son fo four chant wl.
