Hydro utilities plan to form area co-operative By Scott Anderson Port Perry Star The marriage of 10 area hy- dro commissions could save tax- payers a substantial amount of money. The area commissions from the Central-Eastern area of On- tario are proposing to form a co- operative in which common ser- vices are provided to its users. Under the scheme, the utili- ties would share common ser- vices, equipment and knowl- edge. The schedule of common ser- vices include, metering, emer- gency response planning, rate setting, public awareness, pur- chasing, technical support and training. These various areas would be shared in a co-operative spirit by the groups under the name of the Kawartha-Simcoe Utility Co-Operative. Area commissions include Scugog, Brock, Fenelon, Lake- field and Lindsay Hydros. The various groups would buy into the co-operative at an initial cost of $100. Scugog's Mayor Howard Hall, who serves on Scugog's Hydro Commission, isin supportofthe plan.
