There was a large crowd on hand at the Mooretown arena. None of the faces were familiar and it was soon obvious that we were the visitors. Mooretown came out flyingin the first period in front of the huge Mooretown crowd. Moore- town scored at 13:09 but it was called back as it was directed into the net by a Mooretown skate with Port playing short handed. Mooretown kept the ressure on and had Port emmed in their own zone at 11:04. Aaron Chambers took a big hit in the Port Perry zone but got the puck out and down the ice to take some of the pressure off. At 9:41 Scottie Harper saved our bacon on a good de- fensive slide to break up the Mooretown rush. Port Perry was hanging tough with Mooretown holding the edge in play and out shoot- ing Port 2-1. Chris Jones went into the corner hard and still managed to end up with the puck. Mooretown was playing good disciplined hockey and Port was forced to play defensively. Mooretown was still holding the edge in play at 6:34 but the game was still scoreless. Port's big defenceman Jeff Neal slammed his check into the cor- ner and held on for a whistle as Mooretown had Port hemmed in their own zone. The Port Perry captain was trying hard to set up a good scor- ing opportunity. Travis Pickard put a nice pass over to David Gainey but the goalie came up big. At 5:31 Mooretown finally scored on the over worked Port Perry goalie to go ahead 1-0. Port started to get things go- ing in the late stages of the first period after Scott Harper ap- plied another huge body check deep in the Port Perry zone. Port Perry was having a hard time getting their scoring on track due to the fierce fore- checking Mooretown was apply- ing. They were playing good in your face hockey the way Port usually does. Deryk Campbell had taken some pretty good punishment in the Mooretown zone and started to give a few back. Travis Pickard put a good hit on a Mooretown defenceman at the Mooretown blue line and gave David Gainey a good scor- ing chance at 6:08. In the late stages ot the sec- ond period Mooretown had the edge in play until 1:37 when Brad Johnston lugged the puck into the Mooretown zone to Scott Sanderson at the faceoff circle and Sanderson worked around the defencemen and fed David Gainey cruising in front and he smacks it deep to the back of the Mooretown net for a Port Perry goal.
