"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, March 29,1994 - 3 Seagrave boy wins shoot-out at Gardens By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star A special fun night held re- cently at Maple Leaf Gardens was just that for Jeffrey Blair as he and a number of other chil- dren had the opportunity to skate with Doug Gilmour and Damian Rhodes. One of the highlights of the night for Jeffrey was a private visit with his favorite Leaf, Gil- mour, along with goaltender Rhodes. The two players took Jeffrey into the Maple Leafs dressing room to talk and pose for photographs. The night, sponsored by CJCL Sports Radio the Fan 1430, included two skills compe- titions for the children on hand. Jeffrey, who was invited to the event by Brigette Simone, an advertising representative, won the shoot-out competition and received a Maple Leaf jer- sey for his efforts. Those in at- tendance also received Leaf sweatshirts and caps. Prior to this evening Jeffrey, who plays centre in the Novice league in Sunderland, had not been on skates for two months. Jeffrey, who had the time of his life, wanted to "thank Ms. Si- mone for inviting him to the Gardens and Doug and Damian 'Tickets are $10 per person. for the private visitation in the dressing room." Jeffrey, who was diagnosed with A.L.L. leukemia in Janu- ary, had spent an afternoon at Maple Leaf Gardens earlier this month where he, along with family and friends, watched the team practice, before meeting the players and collecting auto- graphs. There are still a few tickets available for the benefit dance being held for Jeffrey on May 7 at the Sunderland Arena. Any- one wishing to purchase tickets or make a donation can contact Donna Herold at 985-9872.
