Recent visitors at Bob and Madeline Cawker's were Made- line's sister Wendelyn Jones and her husband Mannuel from Regina, Sask. Scugog Island United Church, 191001Island Road A meaningful Palm/Passion service was conducted on Sun- day morning. We were blessed with ministry of music from the choir and orchestra. The choir sang beautiful anthems called 'Ride into my Heart Lord Je- sus" and "On the Highway to Je- rusalem". The orchestra was made up of the following talent- ed people: Doreen Adam, Doug Barber, Edna Beckett, Bonnie Bell, Bob Cawker and Carol Ed- gar. The Lectionary Bible Study Group will meet on Tuesday, March 29 at 1:30 p.m. at S.I.U.C. A Maundy Thursday service to be held on April 8 Florence Ashton There was a smaller atten- dance than usual at the Brook- lin Horticultural Society last Wednesday evening, but it proved to be an interesting meeting. President Sue Holt convened the meeting. Richard Woolger, a member of the Socie- ty, was the main speaker for the evening. His subject was "Dif- ferent Ways of Growing Toma- toes". He also gave a demonstra- tion on planting seeds which is something that many eager gar- ~deners are busy doing these days. Bill Burgess reviewed sev- eral of the seed catalogues which had been received. There was a good attendance at Burns Church on Palm Sun- day. The sermon was titled "How Far Are We Willing to Fol- low?", with the choir singing "The Legend of the Trees". A Good Friday service will be held at 11 a.m. on April 1. Before you retire on Saturday night, remember to set your clocks ahead one hour, or you might just be late for church on Sunday morning, as church be- gins at the early hour of 10 a.m., with Sunday School through church. However, you can skip breakfast at home and enjoy breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the Church, prepared and served by the men of the congregation. So come and enjoy the Easter cele- brations with your family. A congregational meeting will be held on Sunday, April 10 following worship. "Up with Music Concert Night" featuring the Senior Chamber Choir from Anderson High School will be held in the BOOK YOUR SPACE NOW! Gerald and Betty Emm trav- elled to Barrie on Sunday to vis- it their daughter Julie and hus- band Terry Fisher and grandchild. Euchre night is Thursday night of this week at 8 p.m. Come and enjoy an evening to- gether with your friends. I want to thank friend Sheila Parrott for filling in for me last week, while I was convalescing. It's nice to have a friend to call on when needed. And thanks so much to my dear kind neighbors for all their many acts of kind- ness. We did so appreciate it. A special Easter sunrise ser- vice will be held on Sunday, April 3 at 6:30 a.m. (DST) at the Scugog Island United Church parking lot. If you haven't signed the sheet yet, please call the church at 985-4094 a.s.a.p. if you plan on attending, so breakfast plans can get under- way. Breakfast following the service for those attending. The Easter Sunday service will be held on Sunday, April 3 at 9:45 a.m. Special music will be provided by the choir and or- chestra. You are invited to join us at our Easter services. Port Perry Baptist Church will have a Good Friday service at 10 a.m. The Women's Minis- try "Between Friends" is having a special meeting on Tuesday, April 5 at 9:30 a.m. The guest speaker is Dr. Elizabeth Russell who will speak on the topic of breast cancer.
