"A Famlly Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 12,1994 - 23 Sn SPORTS Legionaire action | Easter weekend, the Legion- aires headed to Oshawa for the annual LNHL Peewee Tourna- ment. It is possible that some of the parents wondered why they had agreed to go as they climbed into their cars at 6:30 a.m. Good Friday. The boys may have had some doubts too, when the final buzzer sounded for the first game and they were on the losing end of a 4-0 score, beaten by the Red Wings. The closest we came to scoring in this game was a goal post. Seth Gray was MVP In game two we played a team from Cardinal (near Brock- ville). The first period was all Port Perry. At 3:22, Adam Hobbs tipped in a shot by Adam Jones from Scott Jeffrey and Just 20 seconds later Seth Gray dumped one in from Derek Tin- dall and Jon Froats. At 5:18 Adam H. scored again from Adam J. and Casey Van Schag- en. Jon then tipped in a shot from Seth and Derek and final- ly, Danny Lyons found the mark from Adam H. and Glenn McCready. This ended the peri- od and the scoring for Port, but it was enough as Cardinal could only get one past Dann Lee just at the end of a penalty in the second period. Final score 5-1 for the Legionaires. The MVP in this game was Adam Hobbs. Game three - another 8 a.m. game Saturday, this time against Brampton. This time the team was awake and ready to play. Again, we came out strong in the first period scoring four goals. Casey heard a fan yell move and went end to end to score the first goal, assisted by Jeffrey Ashton and Scott. Adam H. scored from Scott and Adam J., Jon from Seth and Derek and finally, Ian Parlia- ment on a breakaway from Wyatt Park and Jeff. Brampton managed one goal and the peri- od ended 4-1. Brampton scored one more time in the second but Port answered with two, a sec- ond goal from both Adam H., as- sisted by Adam J. and Scott, and Ian from Danny. In the third, Port got two more from Seth and Scott, with assists go- ing to Jon and Adam H. Ian Par- liament was chosen MVP for this game. Game four - a must-win game against the Bruins and what a game it would turn out to be. This game was real hockey, hard-hitting and end-to-end ac- tion with everyone playing ex- tremely well. The Bruins were unable to score against Shane Savage until they found the mark on a breakaway with just 47 seconds left in the second. Midway through the third, Seth opened the scoring for Port from Scott and Danny. This was to be the start of the end for the Bruins and a hat trick for Seth as he quickly scored two more goals, both on breakaways, showing his awesome speed, and beating the Bruins 3-1. Needless to say, Seth was cho- sen MVP for this game. Now the parens get to spend Easter Sun- day at the rink. Game five was played against the Black Hawks. The boys are' on a roll and Dann proved un- beatable as the Legionaires went on to beat the Black Hawks 5-0. In the first, Adam J. buried a slap shot assisted by Scott. In the second, Casey de- flected a slap shot from Tro Campbell and Seth; Adam scored unassisted and Seth bur- ied two, the first from Derek and Jon and the second from Jon and Casey. This win put the Legionaires into the Champion- ship game against Belleville. Adam J. was the game MVP. Game six - the Championship game and last game of the sea- son. A win was not in the cards. This game was a lot like game four but Belleville came out on top 5-2. Adam J. scored from Scott in the first and Jeff from Derek in the second. Derek was chosen MVP. The coaching staff - Garry Geer, Ed Teno, Warren Geer and Ralph McCullough would like to thank all the boys for a really great year. It was one we will remember for a long, long time. We would also like to thank the Legion Branch 419 for their sponsorship, and Dave the skate man, Mary the writer, Steve the stat man and all of the parents for their support.
