You start off by saying that the provincial transfer payment levels announced last week, gaining votes in the 1995 elec- tion. I call our actions one of compassion. No doubt, the money lenders will punish us perhaps with a credit rating reduction. They would have us disregard the plight of the people just as long covery. Contrary to your comment, "Our Glorious Social Contract Legislation" is working. If you think it isn't, perhaps you should compare it with the slash and cut policy in "Conser- vative Alberta" and in other Family is thankful To the Editor: We would like to thank the gentleman who reported our cow, Jenny Mae, had fallen through the ice in our pond and and friends for their help. Especially we would like to thank Ray Munro, who on the day of his 60th wedding anni- versary, April 1, came with his was good news and bad news. a3 programs and transfer pay- rovinces following the same tractor and pulled her out. We kept our promise to hold the line, and our partners appre- ciated that. Pity that the federal government had not done the same with the province. I fail to understand just where you are getting your in- formation from that has told you the deficit will be up by $2 billion this year. In fact the defi- cit will be less than in 1993. We could have made that even less, but we have chose to recognize that the "bottom line" some- times isn't as important as it is to preserve programs and main- tain social programs. Such a move isn't about the sacrifice of deficit plans at the expense of Banks want everything To the Editor: I have presented a business plan to many financial institu- tions in the last three months and have been told that my business plan is a good one. This plan includes taking one person off of welfare and having a part-timer too. Future plans are to create two more jobs with- in a year. All this for a $10,000 loan. Yet I have been turned down flat by a number of banks and trust companies. I am a home owner, operate an existing small business and have put some of my own money into this venture. Even with the 45 YEARS AGO Thursday, April 12, 1949 Best wishes were sent to Prince Albert newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jeffrey and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Shaw. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. A. Roach, Manchester on the birth of a daughter, on April 7. Congratulations were extended to Jack Green, Blackstock, who was named Grand Champion Showman at the annual student demonstration at Kemptville Agricultural School. Jack took a total of eight firsts in 16 possible entries. Three new houses were under construction in Port Perry by Mr. Art Cox, Fred DeNure and Mr. George Samells. 30 YEARS AGO Thursday, April 9, 1964 A baby boy, Paul Robert Storry, and a baby girl. Gloria Ruth Graham, were both born in Port Perry on March 31, 1964. Their mothers, Mrs. Robert Storry and Mrs. Roy Graham discovered later that they also had the same birth dates, being August 18. Frank and Albert Millman entertained a group of their friends institution of the federal gov- ernment telling the banks that they will cover 90 per cent of all small business loans the banks say no to 10 per cent. The banks wanteverything. Listen to the Bank of Mon- treal telling people they are on their side, on commercials. Don't believe it. Or even the Na- tional Bank of Canada, Nation- al Trust, The Federal Bank of Canada and plenty more that have been approached. What do Canadians have to do to pick up the economy and create new Jobs? Who is going to take a chance on new ideas and loan people, not give them, the mon- ey tojumpstart our economy? Is this the way we as Canadi- ans are going to have a future? Glen Matthew, Nestleton, Ont. Ruckus solved To the Editor: All this ruckus about Junior and all-day Kindergarten could be solved quite easily. Last time I checked, Kindergarten was not mandatory. My five-year-old son is ready for all day Kindergarten and would have benefitted from Junior this year. If you don't like the programs, don't participate. Enrollment is not mandatory. So, as the old saying goes: If youdon'tlikeit, leave it! A project which was to involve 12,000 eels was quashed by the works committee fearing the eels, which were to be placed in area lagoons, would end up in Lake Scugog. Handi Transit, a new transportation system for the physically disabled, received the official green light from both Scugog and Uxbridge councils. the troops were just over the hill. Christopher Columbus used three ships. Canadians have always been to my mind far more advanced than that. What is coming is NET- WORKING!
