This put Oshawa in the final for a re- match with Thunder Bay. Miranda and Alicia Burgess, of Cartwright, are members of the Oshawa Petite 'A' ringette team which recently won the Provincial Championships in Hamilton. Please see story for more details. With the banquet goes the awards presentations and this season there were some very worthy recipients. The Monsma Electric Bruins received the tro- phies for both regular season top team and playoff champi- ons. For the individual awards, the scoring champ was Mon- sma's Nick Attwood with 28 points on the year. Top goal- tender went to Monsma's Jim Raaphorst who had a goals against average of just 0.78. Rookie of the year was Mike Butt of the Swamp Garage while Best Sport was received by Woody's Neil Woodrow who was given no penalties this sea- son, while amassing 20 points. The final was the best-played game of the tournament by Oshawa, that was an exciting chess match of skill and wits. With 1:58 remaining, Oshawa picked up a penalty and Thun- der Bay pulled their goalie in an attempt to even the score. Even with this disadvantage, Oshawa outplayed their oppo- nents allowing only one shot on net and then controlled the ring to run out the clock. Both girls made significant contributions throughout the tournament. Highlights of which were a game-winning, and as it turned out, a semi- part of All Ontario team final clinching goal by forward Alicia in the Markham game, with less than five minutes to play. This goal also guaranteed a bronze medal if they lost the semi-final match. In the final game Miranda, playing outstanding defence, started the play and picked up an assist on the second goal against Thunder Bay in a solid 2-1 win that Oshawa dominated to win the Ontario gold medal. Congratulations to these girls on their effort and contri- butions throughout a highly successful first season at the Provincial "A" level.
